––Trevor Smith was just 33 years of age when he passed away on March 6, 2004. According to the September 2004 issue of MUSCLEMAG International, Smith, owner of Nuclear Nutrition, weighed 300 pounds when he died of a brain aneurysm and was found at his home five days later. Reports say he used massive amounts of anabolic steroids as well as Synthol, a product manufactured by his company. According to friends, at one time he weighed almost 400 pounds but never felt he was big enough or strong enough. (Does that sound familiar to some of you?)

––Louise Halliwell, 38-year-old Scottish bodybuilding champion, also known as Scotland’s Strongest Woman, died on December 10, 2003 after spending nearly two years in a coma. Insulin overdose was the suspected cause of her death although there has been an aura of secrecy regarding the particulars of her case. Halliwell operated a popular gym with her brother and won several bodybuilding and powerlifting titles. She was also highly sought after as a personal trainer. According to officials, the insulin overdose, which she apparently was using to improve her bodybuilding efforts, caused irreparable brain damage.

Associates of Scarcella report that he had been battling GHB addiction for several years. Coincidentally (?), he was busted for felony possession of steroids in May 1999 and placed on probation for 10 years.

Duchaine was the author of Underground Steroid Handbook, and a man responsible for leading untold numbers of young bodybuilders and athletes down the steroid path. Though no one can say for sure that anabolic steroids led to his premature death, I’ll let you come to your own conclusions. Momo –- as he was known to his close friends –- had set a whole new standard of muscular size for the short man. Of course, to achieve this level of development, Momo resorted to the whole nine yards of drug usage. Just hours after winning his final contest, he lay dying on a hotel room floor.
–– From humble beginnings, Lyle Alzado’s combination of quickness and strength provided him with pass-rushing skills needed to start with the Denver Broncos in 1971. From there he went on to play with the Cleveland Browns and the LA Raiders where he was a 1984 Super Bowl hero. His 4.75 40-yard dash time, coupled with his tremendous strength ranked him as one of pro football's top pass rushers. He even had 27 wins as an amateur boxer. His status as a premier defensive lineman was also enhanced by his versatility and he played both end and tackle in the front four with All-pro status. Lyle Alzado was 42 when he died of brain cancer that he attributed to his years of steroid abuse.

The nightmare began for Taylor when his high school baseball coach suggested that the young standout pitcher would be an even better athlete if he were bigger. Taylor saw this as a reason to start using steroids. According to his girlfriend, he made a connection for the drugs at a local gym and then began stacking both pills and injectables. Friends and family reported that there was a noticeable personality change –- including bouts of depression -- in Taylor once he began using the drugs. Seeing suicide as an escape from his psychological drug hell, the young Texan took his own life by hanging himself with a belt from his bedroom door. Taylor wanted to be the number one varsity pitcher, and that vanity, his father believes, may have helped kill him.

–– As a young teenager, Ed Gantner was a bit on the small side. But that would all change once he discovered weightlifting and anabolic steroids. By the time he graduated high school and moved on to professional football, he had built his 6’4” frame into a 300-pound hulk. According to his family and his girlfriend, steroids became an inseparable part of his life. After football, he moved on to professional wrestling and of course, the steroids went with him.

–– Before it would be over, Eddie – as his family still fondly calls him – would run the gambit of drug problems. From kidney failure, to a weak heart, to roid rage, to manic depression. In fact, his psychological addiction was so bad that within a short time after a kidney transplant, he was back to weightlifting and steroids. Unable to cope with his health problems and his smaller physical size, Ed Gantner tragically ended his life with a bullet through his heart on New Year’s Eve.

Sure! blame it on steroids,as you know Trevor spent half of his entire life at 300-400 lbs a very unhealthy weight i doubt his heart couldn't take much more at that weight.

The culpurt in louise's death was insulin,as i have always said no matter how experienced you are ,insulin is dangerous

The same with Mike scarcella he had been battling a GHB problem for years, mix with alcohol and you have a deadly combo

Dan Duchaine was also diagnosed with hiv

Mohammed Benaziza duretics are dangerous competing due to low H20 and Fat levels

Lyle Alzado Brain cancer

Andreas Munzer EPO another dangerous duretic

these are just examples the media wants you to put the blame on steroids

I am in the camp that if you abuse anything, steroids or aspirin, you will face the consequences.

I have seen tons of studies that show moderate, responsible use is perfectly fine. Abuse does lead to negative consequences.

And as Radar mentioned, some of these cases are just not applicable to steroid abuse but the media likes to make it look that way.

I am in the camp that Stevesmi beleives any slant he reads last. Kind of reminds me of a how easy it is to convince my 7 yr old Santa Claus is still real. The REAL culprits are right there, insulin, diuretics, GHB to name a few. Tyler Hooten was on antidepressants. And like Army Vet said, any overuse of anything will have negative results. What am I doing even responding to explain the obvious.

After several months of secretly using the drugs, Kyle impulsively took his own life. According to his family, Kyle was dedicated to putting a smile on people's faces and laughter in their hearts. He was raised in a loving household with parents who taught him good values and high standards, which is why his death came as such a shock.

––Saddened by his death, his family and friends launched The J. Kyle Braid Leadership Foundation (www.jkbranch.org). As stated on their web site: “If a tragedy like this could happen in the Braid family, then all of our children are fragile-and at risk.” The Foundation is dedicated to helping young adults develop a balance between their family, friends, school, athletics, and God.

Unable to cope with his health problems and his smaller physical size, Ed Gantner tragically ended his life with a bullet through his heart on New Year’s Eve.[/QUOTE

I would love to take the other side of your trades you are in. As a fellow Trader that is.

My dad, died at the young age of 60 never took drugs. His mother and father died at the age of 59 & 61. have an uncle who has been drinking and smoking since he was 14, today he's happy as a clam. Friends mom died of cancer, never even smoked. Have friend who worked out, no drinking or smoking and died before 30.

It's a crap shoot but abusing something whatever it might be will likely get you there faster...

exactly what i thought when i read this. i did think it was interesting, I read a lot of this type of thing today when i googled steroid laws, steroid deaths, etc etc.

everyone of those stories is blamed on steroids when there is another root cause. this is why i discourage young people, overweight guys, and alcoholics from using steroids on this board. almost all of those deaths are attributed to those 3 things

stocks and steroids: ummmmm... I never said i believed this. I thought it was interesting though and worth a post.

taking a shot at someones career to insult them is cheap and unnecessary. pure bush league. i'm dissapointed in you.

Fair enough, but posting biases slanted stories without the whole picture for an anti-steroid theme seems pointless. Especially when you leave no comment. I could clog the board with bias slanted anti-steroid articles too. But I am sure people would get really pissed off at me and deservedly call me a dumbass.

i agree anything abused will be bad.

I also believe that a perfect diet will let you live long and healthy even if u dont unhealthy things, diet is so important and ppl that mostly wanna get big are eatin lots of saturated fats, too much food really. Your body is not meant to gain 20lb in a week. But who want ot take the slow road lol..

Sure! blame it on steroids,as you know Trevor spent half of his entire life at 300-400 lbs a very unhealthy weight i doubt his heart couldn't take much more at that weight.

If you notice NONE of these or any other cases (at least 99.99%) have actually found steroids as a DIRECT cause of death. Reporters love headlines, so you pick the biggest, loosest flashy cause of death and flaunt it.

Its never: Another human dies from heart failure.

Always: OMG OMG STUPID ROID RAGED FREAK DID STEROIDS TILL ALL MAJOR ORGANS EXPLODED WHICH ALSO PROBABLY WILL BE THE CAUSE OF DEATH FOR ANYONE AROUND HIM BECAUSE THEY HAD CONTACT EXPOSURE TO HIS EVIL STEROIDS.

next time I post a thread I will be sure to get your OKAY first. a guy who has been a member for 6 years and has no karma points. that should tell you what other posters think of you. a troll, to ignore you go.

Please, ignore me. I see from your posts your pretty much post worthless drivel. And I could care less if my posts entertain, educate or enlighten. I post what comes to mind, I could give a rat's ass about Karma points. How old are you seriously?

Shoot I just typed up a long response and lost it......no time to retype it all again....but for starters watch this movie if you havent seen it:

Bigger, Stronger, Faster* - Available on DVD Now

It dispells many of the myths.....when the media cries steroids, even creatine, ephedrine, or other stupid stuff, often the people are stacking it with massive amounts of recreational drugs, booze, and who knows what....thats a cocktail for disaster regardless....and the old timers doing GH, wasnt it taken from the pituitaries of monkeys and cadavors and impure as shit?

If your shotguning any drugs, medication, vitamins, and living an extreme lifestyle of partying, you are rolling the dice...if you are doing extreme shit in bodybuilding like some of those pros might be doing, you are rolling the dice and Im sure they damn well know and accept that risk....

I agree!

Oh and the GHB thing, from personal experience I do not find it addicting at all. I was given it as a safer alternative to Lunesta when I needed sleep! I have been taking it on and off for a year, and never felt addicted in the least. I can go weeks without it, weeks on, go off cold turkey and not an issue, and certainly no cravings or anything....

thanks bro. I made a mistake responding to that guy. i should of checked and saw his history first. he been here for 6 years and has no karma hits. thats a huge red flag that he is a flamer.

dunno what is problem is. the title of the thread makes it obvious unless he has no idea what the word 'propaganda' means.

he was out of line.

That is one of the smallest lists I've ever seen lmfao gimme a break more people od on mulivitamins then that

the movie pulls out stats from ERs and hospitals, steroids are like not even in the top 100 or 200 list of cause of death....youre right its every kind of medication and vitamins or OTC stuff.....

good post i dont see how something with bullshit propaganda as a title got mixed up as being anti steroid especially when most of the list had other dangerous substances listed. I think its educational to discuss and let reliable moderators and members make key points on what to to avoid. Not adressing such issues leads to no answers which leaves people uneducated on the subject. steroids do have some effect on health and should be used cautiously but id say other substances were in the mix that are to blame. If this post led to pointing these things out to a few members like the dangers of insulin then the post was well worth while. I will say on the otherhand that constant steroid abuse without caution can kill you too.

So despite the fact that thousands of pro athletes take "stuff" every year whoever wrote this article could only come up with ten people whose deaths can be loosely attributed to steroid usage, at best? Seems like a decent case that steroids are safe drugs when taken responsibly.

This is another reason why i do not advocate steroid usage unless you're at least 25, the young guys have enough problems adjusting to hormonal changes in their body going thru puberty, adding steroids and you have a reciept for disaster,I've been going on for over 35 yrs ,can't say i'm not in poor health, not even close so the media is just hype and scare tactics. But! anyone who starts without at least 3-5 yrs solid training and has no idea what they are doing deserves to have their ass kicked by yours truly along with 16 lashes!
So don't be a dumb ass pay your dues and you will reap what you sow!

not just that but its fun to read stuff like this. its hilarious to me but at the same time sad to read about people dying.

i also like to go on yahoo answers and read all the misinformation about steroid use. many people think steroids shrink your penis. and they say steroids shrinks your balls also (which is true only if you do not run something like hcg on cycle to keep the balls plump)

i love the internets

Enjoyable read. Thanks for initiating this one Steve. Here's my two cents worth. And for those of you who don't pay attention to politics or don't vote, please pay attention.

I am in my early forties. Been around the game long enough to remember some of the crap we had offered to us as supplements. Like first generation creatine. That garbage would make a billy goat puke! Expensive, hit and miss results, tastes like rancid bird droppings, UGH!! Quality information in sports science was so friggin hard to come by 30 years ago! The distance sports science has traveled in the last 2 decades is practically light years. And yet we find ourselves at war with people stuck in the 70's when it comes to supplements, gear, good nutrition and training. So my first admonition is LEARN. Just as training should never be rutted, neither should your knowledge or sources. Crack some books and study human physiology. Just like the after school special taught us, knowledge is power! But learn for yourself. Ask questions. Seek out the answers. Never be content to just take things at face value. This site and many others can be tremendous sources of information, knowledge and expertise. But get this....DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!

One of the greatest blessings any of us enjoy in our beloved country is freedom. The freedom to choose your own path. The pursuit of happiness if you will. But with great freedom also comes great responsibility. The less responsibility you wish to have or use, the more freedom you have to give up. Anytime someone is offering to lessen your responsibilty for something always ask yourself what freedom they are taking in return. Please understand the hypocrisy as it relates to our current topic. I have the legal freedom, right this second, to go out and purchase enough booze and cigarettes to drink and smoke myself to death. I can even state my intent to do so. And you know what? Legally, you can't stop me. But several years ago, some fat-keistered, vodka snorting do gooder on Captial Hill decided you and I didn't have the intelligent capacity to decide for ourselves whether or not taking 1-AD was safe and sound. I am FREE to purchase, use and abuse products we KNOW are harmful. But I am NOT FREE to purchase and/or use training supplements at my own discretion. Hmmmm?!?! Learned this lesson along time ago. Serves well in politics. Follow the money.

I am not advocating the use of steroids. Neither am I against it. What I am for is freedom. And what I am against is hypocrisy. Don't tell me I can't because it might be bad for me but then turn around and tell me I can with something else when you KNOW it's bad for me. I give NO ONE but Jesus that kind of power over my life. And neither should you. Please pay attention to what goes on in Washington and your state capital. It matters. Remember, knowledge IS power.

Alcohol, tobacco, sugar, french fries, most any drug (from cold pills to aspirin to steroids), and even water, will KILL people if misused or used in excess. So will a gun, if you point it at someone while pulling the trigger, or an automobile will kill you if you aim at at a tree while you're driving 100mph.

They can blame any inanimate object for anything they want, but the bottom line boils down to PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, CHOICES, and COMMON SENSE.

I knew DUCHAINE rather well. I never in my life heard that he had HIV. I do know for fact he
was born with a serious kidney condition, which I beleive is what ultimately killed him.
