I'm always the first to advocate the compound lifts. But I actually kinda like leg curls for hamstring strength. What do you think? Are they helpful in a strength training routine, or should they be scrapped in favor of something else, and if so, what?

Thanks.

they're better than nothing, but glute/ham raises are far superior, even if done on the floor without the GHR bench

I can't find hardly a leg curl machine with enough weight for me to work in the 5-8 rep range. I used to do them uni-lateraly. I think this has more benefit that doing them regular. I would get to a reverse hyper asap. You will train the posterior chain together, explosively, with maximal carryover to athletic and compound lifts

I usually do my leg curls one leg at a time, so it works lol.

Can I just do them (reverse hypers) from the ground, with someone holding my legs? I don't think my gym is equipped w/the proper apparatus.

No, what you are thinking of is the glute ham raise for poor kids. It is definately a great hamstring exercise...you will probably only get the negative for a while, it is really hard to get the concentric off the floor.

the reverse hyper is pretty rare, but I am of the opinion that if a gym doesn't have one, its not the gym for me....lol

put it this way....

you are pulling 730lbs

SOMETHING is working for you... who cares what other people think is effective or not.
