Apple Juice?

Elana

New member
Hey girls...

I thought I would ask everyone's opinion....

For my afterworkout shake I have been using whey protein and Apple juice..

Any other ideas that I could use besides the apple juice??

Thanks!

~Elana

I second 24K .... skip of apple juice. You are getting pure sugar and 100% processed. At least with whole fruits, you get some fiber and vitamins with the sugar. Just add water to the shake, and add some frozen or fresh berries. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries .....

Question...I also use the apple juice because it is pure glucose and easily absorbed into muscles. What about using the powdered dextrose and maldexitrin is it? That you can purchase from the food stores....The point of the post shake is muscle recovery right? How many grams protein and how many grams of carbs are people using? I am Elana's training partner and we drink the same thing...about 22 grams of protein and 25g of carbs (apple juice).

Currently my post workout is 20g of protein, 1 C of strawberries and a kiwi (which is 20g of carbs)

I agree with DG & M24K... I usually blend mine with Ice & Water, and make a few extra Servings in case I need them throughout the day... Here is a breakdown (for anyone who cares) from my breakfast today and an option berries only...

The sugar in apple juice, grape juice, cranberry juice etc is the lowest glycemic form of sugar (sucrose). It will not help with absorbtion. As a matter of a fact most of the positive elements of the shake will bond to it and be flushed out of you system.
As mentioned above. Water is the only way to go. Blueberry's are exellent if you need some sugar. They have great antioxidents etc.

Okay...correct me if I am wrong, but the MOST IMPT time to take in carbs QUICKLY is post workout..yes? These carbs should be inteh most simple form to be easily absorbed by your muscle cells right? As a biologist, this tells me GLUCOSE....or some kind of monosaccharide. Why then do some put in milk which contains lactose a disaccharide and needs to be further broken down or even oats, a complex carb that is very slow to digest. I have heard of people using a mixture of powdered Dextrose & Maltodextrin with a whey isolate shake of 50 percent protein and 50 percent carb. Elana and I concerned because this is supposed to be your most impt meal of the day and we want to make sure we are getting it right :).

Thanks for you input!
