Anyone know....

What kind of total a lifter in the Juniors(20-23 years old) class would need in the 148 lb class(natty) to be competitive? I would love to do a contest some day, but don't want to go into it and get wiped out. I'm not saying I need to win the whole shiat, but I would like to at least show up, ya know. Please don't laugh at my non-hugeness and yes I am male. I read on one site that you would need a 1,095 lb total to qualify for a national meet at that weight. Just curious if any of you know. Thanks

You live on LI. I'd stop by Iron Island Gym in Ocean Side. There's going to be a dead lift bench press meet there on Oct 27 at 12. No better way to see what others are lifting and what to expect then to attend a meet. BTW expect to see some big lifters there, far out of your range for the time being. Don't sweat the 148lb thing, nothing is more impressive than one of the little guys doing triple weight in the bench, or outlifting the higher weight classes. 148 is one of the highest pound for pound weight classes there is.

I would just go and compete. There is a good chance that you will not even be competiting against anybody in the junior 148 class. My first year as a junior I was 148 and competed in about 10 meets where I was the only person there. It was cool at first, but I started feeling like it did not mean anything to get the trophy and I went to open, just so I could get my butt kicked. It is a personal sport. Go and try to lift more than you have ever lifted. Do that for a while and eventually you will be lifting more than you thought was possible.

You will do fine, just do it! You won't regret it.

Thanks man. I was actually talking to a couple of my buddies and they may go and do a deadlift meet with me. One would be in the 198 and the other in the 220. It's on December 1st, so I'll let you guys know if I go.

Man, you have got to go. You like deadlifting now, try it on a platform in front of a crowd. It is like you are in a different world up there. Something about it is very addictive. You'll see.

Here are some of the records in the APA, just one example of one federation, hope this helps. Do it!
