Anyone have/had a sales job?

I'm thinking about a career change into sales. What is the commission structure usually like? (To start that is). Is there more potential for income from 100% commission or salary+commission pay structure?

I work in financial sales...

will you be selling fleshlites? (I have always wanted of those things).

stright rate + commission works for me...slow in the winter around here so that way you dont have to save up all your money for proven slow periods in the industry.....but if your a hussler i think stright commission is the way to go so much out there to unlock just gotta have the right keys

I work in retail and think it's just great! Just look around at how rude and ignorant the american culture is now. Then just imagine how these people are going to treat you as a "sales person" while waiting on them.

Me thinks you need to think long and hard about retail. If you are good with people and REALLY enjoy talking to them you'll be fine. Reason why you need to carry a conversation is that people are bored and need someone to talk to so they'll think nothing of wasting your time, making you think they're interested, they're not, they just want to talk. Just imagine the me, me, me, me, me posters on here. You'll be waiting on the umm..... 98% of the time.

I'm not completely sure but it'll involve selling a service (employee training for other companies).

salary plus commission is good if your unsure

the commission is just an end of the year bonus if you meet ur quota.

like someone above if ur really going to bust ur ass and your good at sales and can handle the slow times straight commission is the way to go.

If you get a sales agent position during corporate sales for a region for a big company - can be big bucks.

yep, there's a saying: "If you can sell, you'll always have a job." really great salespeople are like gold.
