It looks like it is supposed to have some sort of filter:

CO Catalyst Filter...

I opened it up to clean the glass and everything last night... fucking thing doesn't have the filters in it.

I bought the house 2 years ago, and this is the first time I needed to clean it, and realized these things weren't there.

I am pissed. Does this mean what it is letting out into my house is POISON?

why you have to make your thread titles so dramatic?

Dood...

My G/F loves that fucking thing and has been running it non-stop and now I notice it doesn't have these fucking filters in it....

Is it poisoning her, and/or our baby?

I'm fucking pissed off.. that's why it is dramatic..

Phew...

Airght... got ahold of a service center for these things...

It makes it 100% efficient as opposed to 99.9% efficient... but it clogs up and gets all nasty so they don't recommend it...

Fuckin-A... I thought that thing was killing everyone for awhile there...

is it one of those gas fireplaces? is that what you mean?

if there is no vent, you might want to see who installed it. Often, where there are no vents, the installer will do the masonry in such a way that the likelihood for fire is increased.

There are codes which specify how these things are installed. If the fireplace is purely decorative, then the guidelines are less specific. if it is operational, then the tubes that feed the firepalce as well as the masonry itself cannot come in contaxct with anything combustible (wood floor joists etc).

With vents, there is no doubt that the fireplace is operational. When it is ventless, sometimes the correct installation protocols might not be followed.

Sorry to alarm you bor, probably not a problem at all. May just want to ask.

it is gas, and it is 'ventless' meaning it doesn't have an outside vent.

It burns the gas at 99.9% efficency... it 'VENTS' into the house.

There are these optional filters that convert the .1 % that isn't burned to a safe exhaust.

They aren't necessary and aren't required - most manufactures don't even ofter them as an option, and people that do have them - end up removing them...

I talked to a distributer/service center this morning... freaked my shit out..
