for fish?

I'm going trout fishing in a lake that has been recently stocked with trout. It's a very small lake with a fountain in the middle. No streams or anything. I was told worms are the best, but I'd rather use a lure or some other bait if I can. How does corn work? How about a spoon? I have this bottled fake bait red and green colored (Not racist!) bait you form on the hook.

Any other tips, like where to cast the line in the lake, or bottom or top of the water searching for bites? Use bobbers with bait or not? Help!! I haven't fished in 20 years.

How about naked pics?

Buy some of those brightly colored stinky marshmellow shaped things. They work well!

Have fun!

I don't think naked pics will work on the fish. :(

Mini marshmallow, red egg or power bait, bobber = score

Thanks, I may use the marshmallows. I'm taking my 6 yo daughter fishing for the first time and rather stay away from worms.

Do you keep the bait long or close to the top of the water/close to the bobber, in the morning? We're in a fishing contest from 7-10AM. Most fish and biggest fish gets a trophy and cash,or something.

Hey gd! No one really fishes there. Trout is trout. If you know about fishing, you could share it. I don't see a problem with asking. I do remember some tips that stuck with me over the years, but I would think trout, which I've never fished for, may be different.

Curvey, have you ever tried the naked pics? How do you know it won't work. I'm not taking any chances.

there are fishing forums. ask there

personally i fishin seawater in the tropics. im pretty awesome at it (had some articles written about me in the paper) but its super speicific, and pretty simple - use really small hooks, really fresh bait (prawn) and learn the tides/shallows

I would still say use the worms or have them ready. If the locals are catching them on worms, that means you can catch them with worms. Some lakes the fish just don't take artificial. I'd rather touch worms and catch some fish then sit all day bored. Have fun.

I grew up right next to the Gulf of Mexico so I do alot of fishing but it's all saltwater. I have been wanting to try freshwater but haven't got to it yet.

AwEsOmE!!!! She'll have a great time with her daddy. My dad took me fishing at that age too and we actually had to dig up our own worms the day before.

My DD is 5 though and a squirmy worm on a hook might gross her out but at least they don't stink like the icky brightly colored bait.

Oh, and by the way...you are totally fine posting about fishing in here! I would say that it's totally "on topic" too :whatever:

I don't think the kind of bait you use will make that big a difference if it's a pond that was stocked. Marshmallows or fish eggs should be great.

Hi GL, btw.

Yeah, I used to salt water fish too. Mostly snappers (baby blue fish) off the shore or a pier. Loved the lures. Good times.

lol @ "post on a fishing forum".

dude some fishermen are massive nerds.

Yep, but I thought some rednecks here could put in their .02.

Hey, where IS biteme?

Unless you want to look like a total newb - stay away from bait fishing.

Use some good luers. Red Devil and Kastmaster tend to work best in that regard. You can play with the color and size of luer from there depending on what works best for your area.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I will if it works, but I know that 9 out of 10 people there will be using bait. Actually, don't "know", but just guessing.

The only trout I know about are of the Speckled variety. This one ate a Mirrorlure 52MR and she went 7 pounds. She swam away perfectly unharmed to create more "Gator Trout". :chomp:

Salmon eggs for trout!

Forget power bait.

You will be catching fingerlings anyway in a stocked lake.

Are you going to fish off bottom? forget bobbers.

Just got back from the fishing contest. We won a trophy for biggest fish caught. 11 inches. Awesome.

Since we're partners, my ddaughter will keep the trophy in her room. She's making room right now on her dresser fo it. thanks for the tips. We used the fake bait. No lures, the water was too shallow and catching hooks all over. Bait and no bobbers mostly.

so am i reading this right, u caught the fish with live bait. congrads that is awesome.

EXCELLENT! my son and I fish alot. It's ALL about spending the time together. We fish at our country club, sometimes we catch alot, sometimes we don't. the best thing is that it's 5 minutes from our house...
Good job dad, she'll remember that forever, yall won first place!

Power Bait with Garlic
Treble Hook ( the Tiny Golden Kind) tied to high quality Berkley Line which attaches to the main line, the Clip is what attaches main line to leader and also provide a stop for the Egg Weight.

Egg Weight kis where line passes through till Fish is Hooked

Also I use a 15 pound test of line, and also this type of Reel and Pole

Bait on Treble Hook-------------///Clip that connect Leader to Line///---EGG weight--///------Main line to Reel.

thanks! You wouldn't believe how fast it grew from when i got it cut. I don't know why.

i actually went slightly shorter and slightly darker. it looks good I think.

at least, the giant zit on my chin thinks it looks good. (we were talking on my way home. I'm going to sit in front of the mirror and decide.)

Try using a fly rod with a dry fly. Look for what kind of hatches(aka bugs) are flying around. That's how I go trout fishing.
