Vegitarian's are nuts no joke. I was one from 14-21 I did eat eggs and dairy.
Just an FYI to parents of teenage girls claiming to be or wanting to be vegirarian it's the early signs of an eating disorder you should probably seek counselling for them ASAP before it becomes a full blown one.
I didn't bing or purge and wasn't anorexic however being a vegitarian was more about a control issue with food then any crap I spotted at the time.
Getting back to my claim of sign of an eating disorder to girls that I was friends with the claimed to be vegitarian's as well were actually anorexic they used vegitarianism to to hide the disorder from there parents as to why the didn't eat at the same times as them etc. You can now find a good number of studdies the link vegetarianism with anorexia.
And good vegan sources of protein are, beans (hummus), quinoa, veggies, pea protein shakes (whey is not vegan), oatmeal, nuts and seeds.
And you don't have to consume a lot of protein in order to build muscle.

Many of the young women I met who want to become vegetarians (not vegans) wanted to do so because of compassion for animals.
Very few women become vegetarians or vegans for weight issues, or at least the ones I've met, heard of or saw.
where are these studies?!
