So you own a bar, but have no idea what to pay a bouncer??????

Pay him what your most senior bartender makes.

Just to clarify, I'm not looking to be a bouncer, I need to hire one.

We pay our door guys 12.50 an hour with a dollar raise every year.

How many do you have and what is the capacity of your bar?

thanks

Depending on the state you are starting the bar/club in, there may be laws pertaining to the minimum amount of security you can have.

Some states have a ratio of security to patrons.

And this site, is very likely the worst possible resource for this. Considering the sheer amount of liars and con-artists here, I doubt you'll get anything but bullshit from alleged "club owners".

Good point, I know there are some real owners here though. Hopefully I can sift through it and get a ballpark figure. I'm going to check the regualtions from the state, but I thought I'd throw it out here.

Know, as in, met them in their club?

Or because you chat with them frequently?

HUGE difference.

I would wager if there is a single club owner here, he/she doesn't post much at all.

10-12, but keep in mind that half of those guys function primarily as runners (keeping the tables clear, and drinks away from the dance floor) there are no laws in MO as to how many security or doorstaff you must have......but a good rule of thumb is 1 to every 100 people.......most people are there to eat their tabs, and dance the night away, not fight.....I have been told we can hold 3000, don't think we have had more than 1900 though.....and that felt retarded crowded.....

You seem to be an expert on most everything.....all the while being an expert on nothing.

I have all the free time in the world as I sit in my office staring at my lot all day, and hitting the Chicago Auction on Thurs. (except today playing golf at 3) and the St. Louis Auction on Tues. On Friday and Saturday nights, I go down to Velvet (half mine and half a partner's) if I am so inclined......it's an investment not a lifestyle....we have a GM who we both went to High School with and trust to run the business as if it were his own......if he doesn't oh well.......I've lost money a lot faster than that....

How many years did you personally toil before getting ANY free time?

See people don't ever think of the hard work. They think of what it's like *after* the successful hardwork. I've started several business models and gone through the whole spectrum of success/failure.

But yeah, your statement is far from imperical evidence to your venture, be it a hip, chic club or a paper route.

I'm 29.......finished school at 23 with my MBA.......college was tough....work has been a breeze.......I know I'm lucky, and I am thankful for that everyday........a few years as a pharmaceutical rep.....and then self employment from that point forward......

I was lucky to have a very good friend have not one but two successful businesses up and running by the time I had enough to buy my way in as an equal partner.......

Pitbullstl's #1 rule.........save, save , save, and then save some more........cause' it could all be over in the blink of an eye........

I am in no way promoting the entrepeneurial way of life.....as there are far more failures than successes.....

On that note it's time to go play the back nine.............:D

I bounced on the 2nd biggest party street in the nation and was paid $7/hr plus 10% tip out which came out to 15-18/hr.

I have Bounced off and on for 15 years...Generally speaking, the average price runs around 60 to 125$ per nite(Cash)....Depending on the club and how many other Bouncers and patrons attend or work....

Thanks for the input guys. One of the reasons I'm going on this venture is because I'm being "let go" from my current job and the job market in my state sucks. I've got some money saved up and 1, possibly 2 partners to go in on it with me. I'm not expecting an easy ride, but I'm tired of working for someone else and then being dumped "just because".

Just so no one thinks I think I'm going to make a quick buck.

And did I mention it's going to be a strip bar? :)

For a strip club, you're going to have to pay out much more than what is mentioned in this thread. Most bouncers I know make anywhere from 80-300 a night depending on the place..

I bounced for a strip club last year and was making 200/night + 5%.

Anothing thing to consider is that you're going to need more than one guy, especially for a strip bar. You wouldn't believe how many MORONS there are on this planet, and they all seem to gravitate to strip clubs. I couldn't imagine one guy working in my old club, he would have gotten pounded. You need at least 3, very well built and/or skilled guys to be safe and keep people from getting seriously hurt..

Thats my opinion from what I have seen being a bouncer myself..

True, but generally, Bouncers in strip clubs are tipped out by the dancers....More often than not...which isn't a bad thing....heh heh heh

10/hour if you are average...cash.

That's what I agree with. Wherever you guys are getting 15-20 bucks an hour to bounce let me know i'll come apply. Cause God only knows I have to deal with alot of bullshit for my measly 10.

That's what I get paid as well. There are 15 of us who work there a night and the max capacity is only 390 (thought they go to 550 or so) so I guess that isn't too terrible consider the ratio of patrons to bouncers.
