Any Bachelor's for NSCA-CSCS?

Hi all, I hope everyone is having a good holiday. I recently gained acceptance into medical school, but have decided to pursue my passion of fitness and nutrition instead. My question is in regards to the NSCA-CSCS certification prerequisites.

The certification's online site states that in order "to be eligible to take the CSCS examination, candidates must hold at a bachelor's degree or currently be enrolled as a college senior from an institution that is accredited by one of the six regional accrediting associations." Does this bachelor's have to be in exercise science or a related field? Or can it be in ANY field? I am asking because my bachelor's degree is in English.

If the bachelor's must be in a related field, I guess I will start with the NSCA-CPT certification.

Thanks again, take care.

No, it doesn't have to be in a related field but it does help tremendously to have a degree in a related field.

Here is an FAQ from the NSCA Commission:

Thanks for taking the time to respond... I really appreciate it. For someone that does not have a bachelor's degree in exercise science (or a related field), are the study materials available on the NSCA website adequate enough to pass the certification exam? Or will I need supplemental material?

I am just trying to do some research before I invest any money in this certification.

Thanks again,

They say this, but if you're lacking the courses that are in the exercise science track, you'll most likely not pass this exam. It is very, very intense, and they will ask you questions they seem to be straight out of an anatomy or physiology 200 class. I know several CSCS trainers, and they said that without their degree, they probably wouldn't have passed it. My boss is a CSCS and she studied for this exam for six very intense months in order to pass it. Other's have done it in less time, but it is very difficult, even with the degree. Hope this helps.
