There is just something about strongman that motivates me. Makes me feel like a primitave animal inside and I can let it all out on Sunday. We are out in the driveway, cold, raining, wet and tired...picking up large rocks that rip the skin from our arms as blood runs down them. We don't care...we just keep trying. Through it all...we just keep trying...

Ok, thats it. I'm alot weaker than you guys but I don't care. Sometime in December I'm going to fly to whereever you are and do a sunday's workout with you fellahs. I'm serious. There's nothing like the feeling you have at the end of the day when you go throw a workout like that. See you soon. I'm in texas, where you boys at?

December 14th...on a Saturday. Fly into Nashville...there will be a few people doing the same that Friday to train on Saturday. It aint about the numbers it is about the effort. I don't care if you can't squat the bar...if you give it all that you have...that is all that it takes in my gym.

Hi, Cheese!

Yep...since you have had the pleasure of meeting Cheese in the flesh...lol...you know how much fun he can be to be around. He LOOKS innocent but that is just a disguise:) If I could only tell the stories about Saturday night (involved him, hot wings, beer, water, and a large Mexican woman licking hot sauce...and him in a coon skin hat dancing). The fun never ends.

once again good stuff bfold. by the way, do you think rack pulls can be a good replacement for deads when having back problems?

NO...I don't think that Cheese or Bearrito will say that they are either. ALL of our lower backs are killing us. It seems to target our lower backs a lot MORE!!! It puts us in a position where it is nearly ALL lower back, no speed, no hams, no hips...all lower back.

Pull from the floor...like it is meant to be done.

b fold, how often do you workout with the stones? and how can your body put up with that? seems like you would blow your back out just trying to lift a 285 sphere of the ground, (just TRYING) i can't imagine how much damage this is, or could be on your body. doesn't seem like there could be a good technique or form to lessens the tremendous amount of stress on your lower back trying to lift these bad boys, or is there?. i give it a 100% in the gym also, but using very controlled movements when dead lifting, or anything that puts a lot of stress on the lower back, are you ever worried about this?...i have always wanted to ask a strong man about this, and your as good as any EH!

my dad blew a disc in his back, and he couldn't even return to his job for 6 months after surgery, so i'm always very carful with it, i do not want back problems.....piece.

Our life, in all sports, are not done in controlled movements. When a football player makes a tackle, comes off the line, swings a bat at the mound, goes up for a dunk or a lay up, etc...they are not in a "controlled manner" with a tightly arched back.

Most people hurt their back when doing something in a "rounded back" fashion...so why not strengthen your back in the same manner?

A 285 pound stone is very light to me...VERY light. I have loaded a 404 pound stone to a 44" platform before. It takes practice and raw, brute strength.

I do the stones about once a week in some form or fashion and will probably take a break from them about once ever couple months as I focus on another event. The stones are fun but they can also tear someone down...especially if you can't get it off of the floor. They will play with your mind and make you wonder why you can deadlift 600+ but can't budge a 300 pound stone.
