Another Fun Sunday, 1-12-02

NICE work dude! I have never seen anything like those chain squats before. That looks like a killer having to start at the bottm of the movement. Intense my man!

i hear this all the time. what exactly does it mean?

I have spent so much of my 'off season' working on building strength because of my health conditions. I feel better and am making sure that my gym strength is properly transfering over to my events...just enough...just the right time. If I hit the events too hard and too soon...my joints really start to suffer.

You can't train 100% all of the time...especially not at the strongman events.

Hey BFold, is this how you tran normally, or is this just contest prep. Meaning, is this what you use to get big, or do you just do this type of thing for contest.

P.S. please chime in on my routine thread. It is on this board (Training board)

My basic routine is as follows

Sunday; good mornings or deads, various other lower body and back exercises in the gym...and events.

Monday; overhead press, triceps, lats, biceps...only working the overheads with high intensity.

Wednesday; box squats and other lower body and back exercises in the gym.

Thursday; speed bench press, various other tricep, shoulder, rotator cuff, lat and bicep work in the gym.

I work abs 4x per week in one way or another...and calves 2x per week also.

From here one out...I plan to do some sort of light cardio 2x per week...and still come in at close to 290 on contest day.

Standing Calf Raises
135, 185, 235, 285, 285 x 5

come on!!!!!!!!!.........

man you know i have nothing but love and respect for you, but i gotta speek.... physically i cant hold a candle to you right now. But you have got start training calves with some real weight!!!!

285 lbs?????? ok here is an experiment for you. can you do standing calve raises with just your body weight on one foot? ( balance doesnt matter just weather or not you can do it) i ll bet you can........ try it now... i will wait.

good, i thought so. Now all things being equal both calves can do the same. great. both calves individually can raise 290 lbs. add that together and both your calves can raise 580lbs.

do me a favor, put 500 on the bar next time you do calves.

just trying to help with what i see as a week link.

Your leaving out a bit of math. 500 on the bar would equal 790...gotta count bodyweight there if you are going to count it in your little test.

I'd like to see someone use 500 pound on my standing calf raise...lolololololololololol.

Remember...you can't train at 100% intensity for 100% of the time. I have been feeling a slight pull in my left achillies for about 2 weeks...last week I barely trained calves and this week I trained them a slight bit. I could probably get 325-350 for 5 reps on my calf raise...it is not a machine...just a straight bar in the power rack.

I see what you're saying but it is a big difference between a machine and a bar loaded.

Thanks...

Post up how your training is going!!! Have you gave that big yellow box carry thingy a try yet??? I like that idea...

I can feel the soreness sitting in already. Back, top to bottom, and my hamstrings are starting to ache now....

Pizza time...again.

Oh, you mean that box that weighs like, 138lbs? Nope. Haven't tried it yet. But I'm sooooooooo wanting to give it a shot! Maybe this Friday (I'll post our workout for that evening)?

Hey, I have to say that my boyfriend performed the tire flip this past Friday night (the training I missed). All 5'10", 166lb of him flipped that 320lb tire, 20-times and he beat his previous time of 1:11!!!! The last time I flipped it (20-times), I posted a 2:40 (or something like that). Next time: I'll be under 2-minutes! I promise! (and I weigh only 122lbs at 5'4").

As for the pizza. I hope you had beers with that! That's one of the things I love about this training. Unlike preparing for a bodybuilding contest, you can eat, drink - generally be merry afterwards. Well, 'cept for the soreness! And I feel for you in that regard! :D

Congrats on the tire flip times!!!! You should really start posting more about your workouts on here...it would motivate me for sure. No beer for me for a few weeks...this dehydration problem seems to be triggered every time I have more than 2 beers...maybe soon though.

It is a wonderful sport filled with fun loving people. We train, compete, cheer for EVERYONE, and eat and drink and be merry. Tod and Julie are two amazing people too...you are very luck to be training with them...VERY good people.
