Ya, me neither bro. He wants 18k though--for openers. I don't see the potential being that high for the site, unless you turned it into another roiddoc version of Triedia with open Source posting, which doesn't interest me.

It's a huge board but I don't think I'd pay 18 K, I'll put down 5 K, and I'll look to see if a couple of guy want in
 
I was seriously considering it until I found it he wanted 18k to start. Honestly, where is this huge earning potential? He must be banking on the new owner coming in and charging a monthly fee like the platinum thing here. The site would go to shambles after that. No one is gonna pay a monthly fee for a site that just took on a new owner that no one knows much about. Other than that, the only other quick money would be in banner ads and those are maybe $100-200 a month each. Maybe you get lucky and get 4 different ones. You'll be lucky if that money will offset the cost of your server every month.

If he set it at a reasonable price, I know a couple people (respected vets) that would go in with me. But 18k is ridiculous IMO.

With all the members, selling of supplements, platinum memberships, articles and advertising. I would bet $500k, probably more.
 
this board isn't all elite has its hands in.....online gambling, supps, articles, advert, etc
 
After costs probably a 1/10 of that... maybe less..
the cost of running the board, with the bandwidth used and board "upkeep"..

btw- elite no longer owns MQ.

Your making it sound like someone couldnt start their own board and do all these things. I dont know about you but if I'm gonna invest 18k into something, I want to know a bit more then just "it has huge earning potential".
 
there are other boards this is the biggest what does that tell you? i mean somepeople are more at home on other boards prolly cause they have more respect but almost everyone knows elitefitness.com and not everyone knows or visits some of those smaller boards

Hey, if you got 18k, you should buy it if you think it is such a bargain. I'd be quite interested to see your net income for the year.
 
no one is going to pay 18k for the board. if the board has such "huge earning potential" why don't the current owner's take advantage of it?

I was actually considering buying the board too, but now that Admin did this, I really have no interest in it. I'd say 1/3 of the good people have already took the website off their favorate places list and are on other boards.

He shot himself in the foot.

I will cry for one week straight if the site database go down the drains, there is not price for all the info we used to got there. On the other hand, I had about 3k posts there, and it was all recorded. I used to use the place to talk about some things that I wouldnt talk even to God. I exposed all my weaknesses there. And by the way if I ever get married God forbid my wife using the search button there, lol, damn I still cant belive all the shit I posted.


Ok, now, seriously, I hope that admin will find some guy to mantain the site at least.

The Bolex has been around for years and will be around for many more. It has HUGE memebership........The Bolex has will always be my home. No offense meant, just the way it is for me.......

Loyalty goes a long ways these days......rare to find anymore......That is sad too...........

I agree, and am loyal to the place. I wandered a few other sites before I found the bolex. Tredia, the Gade, but nothing compared to the bolex. I still am loyal, as I have nothing to say but good things about admin and all the the other great mods. But wat can we do? I'd buy it if I had the money. I wish we had notcie of it going down, as I would have liked to get some info back from there first. I felt that was in bad taste. A days' notcie could have saved me a bit of a pain. But what can I do short of buying it? Move on i guess.

No specifics, no details?? And he' just pissed thousands of members by shutting the thing down, even if temporary, so that won't be a great boost for the new owners.

That' very true...
18k is very overpriced....I would say 1-5K is the top value because of no advertising contracts. Just the side membership base, that's about it.

if Anabolex was such a good deal, they wouldn't sell it. Excpet maybe for EF (and I'm not even sure) how can you make a dime out of that ?
 
How to make money? Easy, if a dealer gets his hands on it, he'll promote the hell out of his line of gear and trash the competition.

That customer base will be buying his gear and that's how he can make $$$, putting up ads will not get you shit.

Remember, That's how the Gade started...a dealer opened the site up. At one point they were promoting Horse GH as real GH and people were buying it.

True, but it really depends on how low you are willing to go. it didn't last long when RoidDoc was running the triedia scam and he was very greedy.

As far as the gade and other boards...for the most part it's just business. It may be deceiving but it's not a complete scam like approuving a source and then having him scam everyone after a while.

I think money can be made, but it would be slow. Maybe 5 advertising contracts, and exclusive supplements for the site would make it work. But, again, it's not worth more then 1k after further evaluation. I would make a platinum type membership too, just to have the members understand that I need the help. A good way would be by making some good things that the site can offer, where you can SHOP for EVERYTHING right on the site, and free email, sort of like yahoo. One stop shop w/ news and everything. Would be a great idea.

Yeah, but if you started a new site, and spent, say $10k on advertising/marketing/promotion, you would prbobaly get the same results and save yourself $8k.

I just check the members, 36000 members.
900 active today. I thought this board was bigger. Probably about half the members are inactive. Profits are probably less than I thought. But he does have good writers, and a very large mailing list, which can make very good money from selling produts as well as advertising, which costs thousands of dollars to place an ad.

Actually, contrary to the popular belief of George-the-money-god....George Spellwin spends a LOT of the money for the banwich for the site, do you have any idea how much bandwich is needed? I'll tell you that it's over 20k a year and I'm understating. So, again there are two sides to every story.

Yes, I know it costs a lot to keep a busy board up, but don't forget, only platinum members can view full sized images, which does help keep the bandwidth down... still expensive, but removing images will shrink it.

That's insane! So where is the earning potential if it costs that much to run the site. If you buy it for 18 k, then spend 20 on the first year, you are close to 40 k. You would have to sell twice that amont in "supplements" to break even. Wonder what the earning potential is for supplements on that site.
