Just on hour of walking per week can cut a woman's risk of heart disease in half.
That's good news for women discouraged by the thought of exercising 30 minutes
almost every day ------ the standard recommendation for reaping significant health benefits.
A study of nearly 40,000 women ---- including those who smoked, were overweight, and
had high cholesterol --- found that those who walked 1 to 1.5 hrs. per week at a pace of
a least 3 mph reduced their heart disease risk by 51%. Walking less than one hour
reduced the risk by 14%.
