advice on sandbag training

bonan

New member
ive been doing alot of sandbag training(as outlined in Dinosaur Training) and was wondering if anybody thought this routine was too much.

monday- squats(2x15), clean and presses(2x5), overhead carry(100yards), shoulder carry(100yards), Bear hug carry(100yards), Farmers walk(100yds)

wednesday- shouldering(2x5), bent over rows(2x10), pull ups(1xmax), overhead carry(100yards), shoulder carry(100yards), Bear Hug carry(100yards), farmers walk(100 yards)

friday-same as monday

all excercises were done with a 100-200lb sandbag

This is right up my alley man.

I believe that you should not do an "event" type of lift more than once a week unless a contest is comming up. Do the sand bag training once a week, and then find other objects to use at different times of the week.

Looks good to me.I used to include sandbag movements once or twice per 7-10 days, since they can be very demanding. If you are recovering well I would say stick with it.

thanks for the advice guys. I should also note that this is the only strength training i have been doing. On tuesday and thursday i do a boxing routine( heavy bag, speed bag, and shadow boxing). I hope i can gain functional strength with the sandbags while maintaining a low bodyfat and decent boxing skills.

bonan-keep at it.I think you'll only get positive benefits from your sandbag training.I'd be very interested in seeing some of the top professional boxers implement sandbag and rock lifting into their conditioning routines.I'd be willing to bet that there would be a fair amount of carryover to their boxing ability as far as strength and endurance are concerned.
