6 meals a day - Scientifically Proven?

Hey guys. I just got done reading Tim Venuto's "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle". I loved it. Was talking to a friend on the 5-6 meals a day deal, with certain proteins/amino acids needing refueled that often and if not the body extracting them from muscle.

In the book it stated this as proven fact, but my friend says it has NEVER been proven to physiollogically make a difference/occur.

Is this true?

TIA,

Ryan

Take it from me - it works. I dropped 65 pounds eating every 2 hours (7-8 meals per day).

lol your friend is soooo wrong. Does he think you get muscley by simply eating lot of anything? just curious. Some peopp;e have twisted ideas of how dieting etc works.

Well, he thinks it works, but is psychological.

Main thing is, he says that the theory is unproven scientifically, just wanting to see if that's true.

I have read studies showing that it doesn't speed up metabolism, but may help the body from going anti-catabolic, which is significant enough to warrant regular meals (5+)

I was more referring to the body needing certain proteins ever 3-4 hours or that it will seek them from your own muscles. That's the major advantage to it as I see it and what Tom focused on

I'd think for anyone to even think this, at some point scientific studies had to be done than conclusively showed this process occurring?

It's massively debated whether or not it is beneficial or not. I follow it, but there isn't much proof.

It helps keep an even keel with hunger and such though. I guess really what it comes down to is if it works for you then go with it. Dance with the person that brought you as they say.

6 meals a day prevents u from eating shit, because otherwise u go way in excess of ur daily calories (can make eating out harder though)

as far as metabolism goes actuially my last nutrition course the instructor said that there is no actuial proof that metabolism can be speed up, not to say there is not a way or were doing it and not knowing it but things like eatting more often does not make your metabolism any faster just processes the food more effectively through the pancreas and the liver for distribution.
