Kansas City (5-20) at Minnesota (11-16) 8:10 pm EDT

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- One day after Brad Radke turned in his first quality start of the season, Carlos Silva will attempt to do the same.

Silva will try to put an end to his early struggles in 2006 as the Minnesota Twins host the finale of a two-game series against the hapless Kansas City Royals.

The Twins posted a 6-1 victory in Wednesday's opener behind seven strong innings from Radke, who had allowed at least four earned runs in each of his first five starts of 2006. He gave up just one run and four hits against the Royals.

Silva (1-4, 10.31 ERA) has surrendered at least five earned runs in each of his first five outings this season. After his 27th birthday was spoiled by 13 hits - four homers - and seven runs allowed in 5 2/3 innings of a 7-3 loss to th Chicago White Sox on April 23, Silva surrendered nine runs and nine hits in 2 2/3 innings of an 18-1 setback at Detroit on Saturday.

Riding their first winning streak since April 11-15, the Twins will face Jeremy Affeldt (1-2, 6.27). After Kansas City's rotation began the season 0-9, Affeldt allowed one run and four hits in 5 1/3 innings of a 5-1 win against Cleveland on April 23.

The Royals since have lost seven of eight games, including the last six in succession. Kansas City is last in the majors with just 15 home runs and at the bottom of the American League with a team .365 slugging percentage.

Minnesota ranks second to last in the AL with 110 runs scored, 23 more than the Royals.
