UFC 84 Fight Odds

Shane Carwin (8-0, 0-0 UFC) will make his UFC debut against Christian Wellisch (8-3, 2-1 UFC) at UFC 84 “Ill Will”

Carwin — a Western State College NCAA Division II national wrestling champion and two-time football All-American — is a top heavyweight prospect who has gone undefeated in smaller promotions with the guidance of veterans such as Ron Waterman and Nate Marquardt.

He’s an extremely athletic fighter who has drawn comparisons to Brock Lesnar. Carwin, however, has more mixed martial arts experience. In fact, he has finished all of his opponents in the first round with a mix of knockouts and submissions.

Wellisch started his career with a mild, 6-3 professional MMA record including a UFC-debut loss to Cheick Kongo at UFC 62 in late-2006. Following the loss, Wellisch secured back-to-back victories inside the octagon over Anthony Perosh and Scott Junk.

The African Assassin” Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou will face fellow judoka Kazuhiro Nakamura at May’s UFC 84.

Sokoudjou burst onto the MMA scene last year with two devastating knockout wins over highly touted fighters, Antonio Rogerio Noguiera and Ricardo Arona in the now defunct Pride FC. However in his recent UFC debut at UFC 79: Nemesis, he was defeated by Lyoto Machida by 2nd round arm-triangle choke.

Kazuhiro Nakamura has fought a who’s who of Pride veterans, which is not a surprise considering that prior to UFC 76 it was the only organization he had fought for. He had mixed results in Pride going 11-6 in his time there. Just like Sokoudjou, Nakamura’s last defeat was at the hands of Machida at the UFC 76: Knockout. Nakamura is coming off of a suspension courtesy of the California State Athletic Commission after testing positive for marijuana following post-fight testing for UFC 76: Knockout.

let me put it this way... this poor man put 90% of his k on Penn... I like Sean Sherk, but he's gonna get pimp slapped... atleast he better...

I'm in a quandry. I hate BJ Penn and I hope he loses, but I think he will win again. Will make my decision soon.

Dude.. I'm not gay, but your a pimp... don't get pimp slapped by your heart... its not gonna be even close, deep down you know it... hell, I even like sherk, he's -allegedly- a nandralone head, but without the deca/test stack, he's gonna get submitted, hell even on gear -allegedly- he's gonna get submitted... be smart, I could care less about HIlo boy, but tonight is his to submit...

if no one's going to bet on sherk, what's the point?
Okay pretty boy, I agree, its not like Sherk doesn't have a shot, he is a bad ass... if you can't stand BJ, whom I'm indifferent too... go with your heart... nothing sucks more than having to root for a guy you can't stand... its so much funner to go with your heart...

B.J. Penn vs. Sean Sherk

Round 1
Sherk is stuffed on a single-leg at the opening bell. Penn fires his right hand straight down the pipe and lands. Sherk connects with a left hand that snaps Penn's head backwards. The fighters trade jabs in the center of the Octagon. A one-two from the champion buckles Sherk's legs but he recovers quickly. The combo opened a small cut on the right side of Sherk's nose, near the eye. Penn scores with a right hand lead and a follow up jab. Penn continues to jab with his right hand down.

TJ De Santis scores the round: 10-9 Penn
Jordan Breen scores the round: 10-9 Penn
Mike Fridley scores the round: 10-9 Penn

Round 2
Sherk lands a low kick after both fighters score in a punching exchange. Penn answers with a stiff body shot and an uppercut. The pace slows briefly but picks back up with Penn landing an uppercut on the inside. Sherk is hanging right in there with short, quick flurries, but he is starting to show signs of damage from the jabs that Penn continues to land. A left hook from Penn finds its target after he stuffs a single-leg attempt from Sherk.

TJ De Santis scores the round: 10-9 Penn
Jordan Breen scores the round: 10-9 Penn
Mike Fridley scores the round: 10-9 Penn

Round 3
Jabs land for both fighters in the center of the cage. Sherk, bleeding under both eyes, has no answer for Penn's jab and straight right through 12 minutes of action. Penn picks it up a little bit with a right kick to the thigh of the challenger and two rights on the mouth. Penn is shaking his right hand like it's hurt, but he continues to throw it. Penn explodes into a flying knee that stops Sherk. He pounces with punches until the horn sounds to end the round.

TJ De Santis scores the round: 10-9 Penn
Jordan Breen scores the round: 10-8 Penn
Mike Fridley scores the round: 10-8 Penn
PENN WINS !

told ya... ;) mark my words, there is no man at 155lbs on this planet that can defeat BJ Penn in mixed martial arts competition. stipulations include bj being 50 years old, bj fighting out of his weight class, and bj losing any appendage (though it'd still be a good fight).

yeah but to predict that wanderlei silva was gonna win by submission shows that you know close to nothing about the mma scene. nothing personal, it's just that, seriously though....wanderlei submission? that's like saying all of shaquile o'neil's points will come from 3-pointers, lol.

Also, don't be too judgemental, I've been watching / fighting for many years :)
