2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (620 HP)

This is it. The speculation, rumors and half-truths can now be set aside -- this is the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, officially revealed for all the world to see. Powered by a supercharged LS9 6.2L small-block engine, the ZR1 hasn't even received an official horsepower number from the engineers toiling away at the General. All Harlan Charles, project manager for the Corvette team was able to tell us last week was the new high-powered 'Vette engine is "capable of producing at least 100 horsepower per liter. That's at least 620 horsepower, and approximately 595 lb.-ft. of torque." Chevrolet wasn't even able to give us a time on the 0-60. Charles was only willing to say "it's in the low three seconds." The small-block engine under the hood is only able to hit those massive numbers due to the addition of the positive-displacement Roots-type supercharger with a new, four-lobe rotor design plus an integrated charge cooling system that reduces inlet air temperature for increased performance. That's the "go" end, but the "whoa" end is just as impressive. The ZR1 gets some simply huge carbon-ceramic, drilled disc brake rotors. They're so big and are required to be so powerful they're using the same 15-inch-diameter discs found on the front of a Ferrari 599. Except on the ZR1, they go on the 20" tires in the rear. In the front, they'll be getting even larger 15.5-inch-diameter rotors. Yup, they're simply breathtaking to see up-close. For the time being everyone else will have to check out the gallery below or the full press release after the jump. In case anyone's wondering -- the magazine and website all about the Trend in Motors are the sleazy bunch of d-bags who broke the embargo seven hours early. We just followed suit. We'll have more time to talk about that later -- now go and read the press release and look at the pretty pictures.

still a chevy lol

chevy makes quality shit you dumbass..

that is why some dude has a 1991 chevy truck with the ORIGINAL engine that is about to roll over 1 million MILES! on it..

and he's put minimal amount of work into it.

toolbag..

I  my chevy

spectacular car but....

the window in the hood is rediculous, and some of the paint used and the carbon fiber, along with those expensive ass brakes probably drove the cost up too much. i like the interior. but now the viper is actually priced better at over 600hp also. they should have kept it under the viper.

Drove my Chevy to the levy......

Sorry, it kinda reminds me of a Firebird in the front end. It's ok, but not something I'd buy.

I love the old style 1963 split window vette's. Sexy rides!

'63 split window is the whip...... and RARE!

There is nothing wrong with carbon fiber at all. Its lightweight, and durable as all h. e. double hockey sticks and I like working with it.

Shit I may have to go back to work now!

My pops had a '67 Stingray L77. Talk about your sick fucking cars.

Cheers,
Scotsman

Very nice!!

they keep making it more and more into a boy-racer car. vette's used to be on the same style level as some euro supercars - now it looks like a camaro/firebird on steroids

who cares you still drive a 92 talon.....

Only on weekends/track days. Still makes me laugh lining up beside a vette to watch it pull a mid 13, while I'm on my way to a low 11 already at the 400m mark while mr.midlifecrisis is way back at the 60' mark still spinning his tires. I'll take my old ass awd beast over a new vette any day. Half the cyclinders, twice the fun.

A Vette is more than just a 1/4 car. it's a very good track/circuit car (i'd still pick a Porsche Cayman over a Vette but thats just me). So yeah while you may beat a Vette with a highly modded Talon....... it's still a 92 Talon.

Vettes have been absolutely ruining Porsches, Ferraris, and the like in the U.S. LeMans circuit.

yeah - I meant just style-wise. but they kick ass on the track

I liked the sleek look rather than the direction they're heading now

Yeah, same here. Too many fins and foils and scoups and shit everywhere. Also, I was hoping they'd shorten it 10 inches or so.

It's all fun and games til your parked at Target and some jackass slams a door down the side of ya. :)

Does that the carbon fiber paint up better than the old style fiberglass? For real, I've seen few "NICE" paint jobs on factory fiberglass.

I had a rebuilt 68 that looked like a UFO -- smooooottthh - now they look like something out of "escape from new york"--

It makes them actually able to turn for a change.

Chevy should scrub the Vette for a few years, make some facelifts, and re-release it. It's the best car out there for the money, but I don't know anyone under 40 that will actually consider buying one. It's all old guys.

that might be the reason for the new style - more "HEY LOOK AT ME" instead of subtle swoops and curves

I've read about this one before. Pretty much every change aside from that glass bubble are functional. And the Viper someone referenced is the same price as this one. My wife trains a guy that bought one. The thing produces 1,500 lbs of downforce at 150 mph. This Vette can take off, stop, turn and hit 200 mph. A normal Viper can't really do anything but take off.

Chevrolet sells over 1 million Silverado trucks per year.......

In 08 Chevrolet will come to market with the Volt. Its the only all electric car on the market.. It will perform like a hybrid however will be totally electric... the cost will be $35,000...

I sometimes drive an Z06 and it has crazy horsepower.. It has 505 hp and it will get away from you.. The new ones cost $76,000 however if you look at the Viper and Porsch its a bargain.....

The newer ones hit 60 in under 4 seconds and top out at 196 mph.

That's so true.
C'mon man, a ton of cars can beat a Vet in the 1/4 mile.
People don't spend that kind of money on a vat just to race light to light...that is SO 1980's LOL

If I had Vette money I would buy one. I would not take that same money and put it into a 1970 Nova SS --- and I love the Nova's and Chevelle but I also like BRAND NEW CARS too LOL

Brand Fuggin New wins every day now that I'm over 35!

I think they'll be close to 500hp.

not taking a shot at arabian but he got me thinking about guys who read all the books and know all the numbers but only ever drove 1 or 2 cars.

I have driven many and let me tell you...depending how they are geared them numbers dont mean shit.

my wife has this shitty little Japanese 4x4. it is small with a powerhouse V6.
when I'm on the freeway on-ramp and put the pedal to the flloor everybody''s heads snap back.

now multiply that x10 with any well built sports car and there's more than enough power/torque for you boys to handle on city streets.

I have a cousin who (back in the day) use to say a Firebird was shit compared to a TransAm because the book HP was 15 more...what an idiot he was...I drove the Firebird and it was very fast and very fun and "only a 305" V8

ps. just to qualify my experience, I use to own a 70 Chevelle.

480HP. V6 twin turbo. 0-60 in 3.8 sec. Beats the 911 Trubo on the nurburgring track. It's basically a street car on steroids.

long time ago, i read about a car the japs built called the grizzly f1. it was 6 cylinder turbo charged that could run the 1/4 mile in 11 seconds.

Not exactly. Around 3800lbs but the car is still impresive. Probably the only car (on that price range) that could take my eyes away from the Porsche Cayman S....

Good God I do so love america. Land of the extremes!

We'll preach about energy conservation and the environment, then ooh and ahhh over a 620 HP car.

No shit... I don't own a fuel-efficient car either. I just love the fact we can give someone props for buying a hybrid *or* a corvette.

I think in America, the opposite of "love" is "average". May God bless us every one.

thats a highly modded talon vs a stock vette, and the base model at that. a stock C5 Z06 can do high 11's.

times are changing, there are plenty of younger people buying vettes, the ones that can afford them.

the ACR viper is an incredible track car, even the base viper can hang on the track. the ZR1 might compete, we'll have to wait for the comparrison. but the ZR1 is not built purely for track, like the ACR.
