UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- John Grahame and the Tampa Bay Lightning look to build momentum going into the Olympic break Monday when they face the New York Islanders.
A member of the 2006 American Olympic team, Grahame appears to be peaking just in time for the Winter Games in Torino, Italy. Grahame posted his third shutout in four starts Saturday, making 29 saves in a 5-0 triumph over the Washington Capitals.
Brad Richards scored a pair of goals for the Lightning, who have won seven of their last nine games, picking up at least one point in all but one of those contests. The reigning Stanley Cup champions have four games remaining until the league takes two weeks off for the 2006 games.
The Islanders also have been playing well of late, winning three of their last four outings. Rick DiPietro, also a member of the 2006 U.S. Olympic squad, made 40 saves and stopped both attempts in the shootout Saturday as New York posted a 5-4 victory over Pittsburgh.
Miroslav Satan notched his seventh career hat trick and scored the decisive tally in the shootout. Satan has five goals and two assists in this last five games.
The Lightning have won a pair of one-goal games against the Islanders this season, getting a late goal from Martin St. Louis each time. St. Louis scored with less than two minutes left in the third period in a 3-2 triumph in Tampa Bay on November 17 and tallied with 4:57 left for a 2-1 victory here January 2.
