Hi all i'm 17 5'10" 156lbs. I've been workin out for like 1 month every other day for like 2 hours, doing 3 sets of everything since i got my workbench. I was thinkin about getting some of these things (http://www.iconfitness.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/CategoryDisplay?cgmenbr=112011&cgrfnbr=824380) to help me build more muscle but i really dont know much about it, so i would really appreciate any advice about them and how to improve my workout thanks :)

hey man, im only 18, and in a 4 week period, i put on 16 pounds ! the only reason, i did it was because i made a bet with bran, we had 4 weeks to make maximum progress, and in that 4 weeks. i ate so much , and worked out like 5 times a week.I also started up on protein shakes. ive kept up the hard training, and hope to keep growing and gaining,

so much is possible if you put all your effort into it.

what im trying to say is we have a slight atvantage here. we are young.if your really wanting to get into weights, you have to commit to it and say to yourself i want to get from here to here. and DO IT . thats why i take photos of myself so i know where i am and i still have a image of where i want to get too. i recon you can do pritty well. you have nice weights there. but remeber you can have the best weights, but no one can buy the hard work you put into it.

keep working out, and if you need advise just pm me

I think your looking for advice on the wrong board... try the more visited boards such as the supplement board, or wieght training board and you will get a good response. If all else fails, PM Needsize (who doesnt actually need any more size imo)... the advice he gives works. When everyone asks for stats, they need to know your current weight, your bf (body fat percentage), how much protein your taking in, in a day, your overall diet, and your goals (i.e., are you training to look good? = bodybuilding, are you training to be strong? = powerlifting, are you planning to gain weight etc).

Good luck!

Pete

First of all thank you guys for your replies and advices. Right now i don't really have a diet i just try to eat as healthy as possible which is kinda hard because i'm in high school and the food there is junk but i got to eat it anyways, i don't know what my body fat is to be honest i never checked that before but i took this picture a few days ago http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=9/26321565389.jpg&s=x7 maybe you experts can give me an idea :) i don't think is that bad i've played soccer all my life and as i told yall i just started workin out with weights.

My training consists of 2-3 hours everyother day doing 4 sets 12 repetitions of everything, once i can do 4/12 i add more weight, my goals are to do what Assertive Guy said gain more weight, be more strong and look good :dance2: you guys think i should do more sets or repetitions to improve my workout?

I'll pm Needzise maybe he can tell me of a good nutritional supplement to build more muscle.

PS: sorry for my spell errors but i'm still learning english :D

I know very few people who train more than an hour per workout... what allot of us tend to do is a 'split'. This means you split your programm up so you only train one or two parts per session... this way you can train muscles more specificly. This way you can train every day/every other day and get even better results. Supplement wise you got some choices... the basics are getting a protein powder (which you mix into a shake) - try EAS, a multi-vit - best one is probabily Megaman by GNC.

Plus, I'd stick to 12-24 sets per whole workout and no more, or do just dont go over an hour (you just waste energy).

Other supplements you might want to look into are:

- Creatine
- Cardio Breeze
- Ergo-pharm products
- Glutamine
- Flax Seed oil
- Omega 3 fish oil
- Ephedrine/Caffiene/Asparin (commonly named 'The ECA stack')

That will keep you busy a while! ...and there are plenty more...

Once again thank you Assertive Guy for your reply. I'll take your advice about the spliting program and see how i do. Last weekend i went to the outlets and saw a store with all those proteins stuffs i'll go this weekend again and check the ones you mentioned. i'll be posting more pics later hopefully with more progress :)

You are working out way too long. Try to keep it to less then 1 1/2 hours at the most. I am not a big fan of the 12 rep range. From my experiences, I gained way more muscle/size doing lower rep/powerlifting workouts. Do some heavy exercises like BB bench, deads, squats, rows, pullups etc.. If you want mass, you gotta lift heavy, if you want to look like the guy playing beach volleyball, then thats a different story.

Lift heavier, about 3x per week and cut the time WAY down. You won't see much gain if you don't. Get the 12 rep, mens fitness crap out of your head. Look up the 5x5 routines and do a single factor(not dual) program. I bet you will see awesome gains and never go back to what your doing now. Just think, you will have about 10 more hours a week free and gain much more!!

I checked out the creatine and the lady working there told me something about cycles and i didn't undrstand well, once i take it i have to keep taking it? also from the ones you mentioned are there any possible side effects for young people? i mean maybe i should wait more before taking it, i've been working out for a little over 2 months.
And last are those like natural stuffs? cause my dad doesnt really want me to be taking any supplements he thinks everything's steroids... :mommakin:
sorry if i sound stupid but im really :newbie: to all this

in brief, growing a body is like growing a plant. more sun, more fertiliser and more water isnt going to make a plant big and strong - it can hurt or even kill it. what you need to do is provide the right conditions for your body to grow, and that is based on:

training
food
sleep

sleep is simple. just get enough of it.

taining is a bit more complicated. for a natural trainer (you) train for less than an hour, but keep it INTENSE. if you train for a long time, the hormones in your body that break it down are released more, and you will actually shrink. this is what everyone refers to as overtraining. the idea is to get into the gym and do what is required to stimulate growth, AND NO MORE. so. 45-60 minutes, heavy and hard. only do a couple of muscle groups at a time (ie chest and tris, back and bis, legs, shoulders abs is a common 4 day routine)

then theres food. the basic principle is to eat many times a day (ie 6 or so) with a serve of carbs and protein in each meal. something along the lines of 30g of each, in each meal. make sure one of those meals is immediately after a training session. keep fat down or you, ah..get fat

thats it. bodybuilding basics in a nutshell. keep reading, youll fill in gaps.

oh, and stick to it. the difference between the guys that have good bodies and those that dont, mostly, especially at your age, is perseverence.

nice setup, by the way :)

I agree that all you need for supplements is protien!
At your age your body is producing a ton of testosterone. You can make great gains just by eating and working out right.
I'm in my 30's so I only hit everything once a week. You can probably hit everything twice still.
Here is what I do:
Monday - chest
Tuesday - back
Wednesday - shoulders
Thursday - arms
Friday - legs
*Keep up the cardio too. You will get a ton of women if you are lean and in good shape!
Best of luck!

hmn... I'd tend to agree with how the other guy's have responded - you really need to get the workingout/eating/sleeping right and *then* think about supplements. Definitely get yourself some protein... if your dad's funny about supplements, just eat lots of tuna, chicken, cottage cheese, oats for breaka (and chuck some egg whites in there as well). If you want, you could make a post on the training journal forum and keep us updated on *everything* - you may be suprised how much help you get.
