So one argument is that the Squat is el numero uno. So if you ONLY squatted for one session a week (assuming it was as hard as possible for an hour or so) would that be enough?

No.
 
it is all about training your body to get stronger. 1X a week is better than nothing but you will not improve without pushing yourself more than that.
 
1x a week is nothing bro.. youre body is capable of so much more, youre cutting urself short
