I hate totals
I bet them sometimes when offered as you'll find 2-3 point moves
that's significant on a total because a game can be a ahem,total blow-out and the total play will still be live
say the total is 45 and the game ends 41-3

this is what's known as "buying half a point"
I never did that back in the day's but it costs you about 10%
If indy wins by 3 you make a little money here and push on your other action
