UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins hope their best performance of the season carries over into Thursday's contest against the New York Islanders.

The last-place Penguins are coming off their biggest win of the season, an 8-1 drubbing of the Washington Capitals on Wednesday to end a 10-game slide.

Mark Recchi and John LeClair scored two goals apiece and rookie Sidney Crosby added a goal and three assists for Pittsburgh, which played with emotion after captain, owner and greatest player Mario Lemieux announced his retirement Tuesday.

After starting 2-1 under interim coach Brad Shaw, the Islanders have lost their last three games - one in a shootout. They are coming off a 4-0 home loss against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.

Goaltender Rick DiPietro was pulled after allowing four goals in less than two periods, as New York, fell to 3-11-1 in its last 15 games.

The Atlantic Division rivals have split their first two meetings this season, both in Pittsburgh.
