So I Had Some Heavy Crap Dropped Onto Me Today...

Literally.

I'm working part-time for a manual labor temp agency and today we were sent on a job to offload full size semi-truck trailers of the large blue heavy duty plastic recycle bins. 4 bins across, 53 feet long of them, each bin stacked 9 high.

These bins also had water in the top most bin making them very top heavy above and beyond what they already are. We had multiple stack lean and crashes today. It's so heavy if it starts toppling you can't physically stop it. I would wager some of these had close to 100 pounds water in the top bin.

The first knockover we had today was another guy pushing them directly towards me while I was positioning a stack to be offloaded. Ya, that was bright pushing them directly in my direction. Ya gotta understand 9 of those fuckin bins is like 9' tall.

Without warning the bin stack he's pushing topples forward towards me and I have just enough time to turn around when the top foot edge of the bins comes slamming down into my left lower ab/oblique, crease of my upper thigh. I also have some nice crossways marks on my mi-upper thigh.

The initial impact stunned me just for a second. Luckily I had my leg facing the same direction and almost perfectly braced otherwise that would have blown my knee out. I was slightly concerned about my kneed tracking or any potential pain, but half a day later all is feeling well.

What I did not realize is just how hard of a hit I took to my oblique. I have red and blue welting and that side of my abdomen appears to be slightly swelled by 1/8th to 1/4" when looking straight down my gut. I'm not in any particular pain atm, but the area is tender and I've had a few very slight muscle spasms in that area.

I honestly think if I wasn't built like I am that would have seriously injured someone else. I saw several stacks fall today and the fucking force when the top of the bin hit the ground with 50+ pounds of water must multiple higher than a fuckin pro boxers punch. When it hit me my whole body tensed for a second like I'd been tased. Probably the impact goin through my body.

The supervisor saw it happen and I told him my knee was feeling good, but I hadn't noticed or felt my oblique until I got home. I didn't report it when I got back to the temp agency because up to that point I wasn't that concerned about it and I'm still not really that concerned about any serious injury.

Just as insurance I'm seeing my chiropractor tomorrow to make sure shit didn't get knocked out of alignment which may very well have happened and I haven't been in for a few months anyhow.

If I wake up tomorrow with significant soreness in my oblique and my adjustment ends up being quite a few things am I in the right to ask the temp agency to pay for the cost of the adjustment. It's only 30 bucks on my membership.

I'm not the type to cry foul and exagerate an injury. I would appreciate any feedback anyone can give me as this has never happened to me before.

Thanks.

Without benefits you should file a work comp claim. Even with benefits chiropractic care wouldn't be the prescribed treatment option even though it may be effective.

should have went to college rob.

workers comp should handle all of this sort of thing.

I wouldn't settle for anything less than a free prostate exam.

The original poster may not realize your exams involve 18" glowing purple objects that vibrate and gyrate in position.

Well you guys are alot of help.:mix:

Guess I'll just see what my chiro says and see how my abs/oblique feel when I wake up. I haven't pissed/shit any blood yet so that's a good sign.

Tomorrow's 5x5 squat day. If my obliques protesting enough I don't feel squats would be wise couple hours after my adjustment and the chiro can confirm that any of my shit being displaced could have been directly related to it I'll probably say something.

It's not just a matter of workman's comp. That's the absolute bare minimum liability that any place legally has to have as far as I know. It's that if I say something it'll probably have to be in the form of a formal injury report etc which sucks for the company etc.

There's toughing out a little pain and then there's 5 adjustments later till yur back in shape(literally) and 5 visits poorer cuz you didn't say shit.

Seriously ... why are you doing a B.S. job like this?

Not everyone has a college education and the job market is FUCKING terrible. This might not affect you.

I'm a professional heavy equipment operator. Nobodies hiring.

I've got 30+ applications to all the major stores around. Not a single response.

I've walked into Mcdonald's. Not hiring.

I've walked into random businesses. Not hiring.

I even walked into one of those low rent porn movie rental/viewing places. Not hiring.

I don't really have a choice.

That's maybe my fault for not getting a good education, but I'm a skilled operator and can't get work. I want to get into the Longshoremen's union, but that's literally 1 in a million chance when they have their random lottery's for people to get in once every blue moon of a blue moon.

Shit isn't easy for everyone right now.

Im just fucking with you rob. I know its tough out there. I lost two jobs in 4 months last year so decided to work for myself, which is hard in and of itself to do. Hang in there, it will turn around, always does.

operators make good money (when there is dirt to push).
i had to make a career change too cause of a shite construction economy, it
sucked till i found what i was looking for.
i ran a enterprise rentacar store as a inbetween gig, the worst most misreable job i've ever had

Bro, I wasn't judging you ... I realize it's tough out there.

My organization has hired people at salaries 2 and 3 times less than what they are accustomed to making and they relocated from other states to get the job.

A college degree isn't necessarily the answer in today's economy either.

My point is: moving boxes for a temp agency is preparing you for nothing. Working as a construction laborer, at cook's helper, or even retail (all examples), will afford you an opportunity to gain some marketable experience even if it's not in your chosen field.

you can always be pick3's personal fluffer in between gay pron movie scene takes. Demand and growth potential is quite good.

is this your way of putting in your 2 week notice?

Plunk/RS offered me the lead role in their next pron porduction. And you know the kind of bankroll plunk has to work with so i couldnt turn it down.

Guys gotta eat, rob

my job is pretty rock solid
we don't make that much money, and fire is a given.

I wasn't suggesting you'd lose your job.

But when DOD employees get RIF'ed they don't compete for placement.

You may think you're due a promotion, but if one of these laid off Feds wants the job ... it's his.

When a career status FED gets RIF'ed or is placed in a over strength/over hire status they get pretty creative in interpreting qualifications.

I knew a dude who was a GS-04 Clerk in a warehouse. He ended up a GS-09/11 Park Ranger on the merits of his participation in his son's boy scout troop.

i'm sure it happens but fire is a bit more particular about quals and experience.
if you don't have them, you are not getting the job and the jobs at the GS 6 level and above are pretty qual heavy

Sometimes people are just trying to survive & stay afloat bro?

and many young people accept assignments because it pays 2 or 3 days an hour more than a position that you can take some tangible skills from

No arguments there, I've worked virtually for free for local government / clubs when I was enhancing my CV / employ-ability for the sports & leisure industry doing my exercise science HND, as opposed to doing solid minimum wage jobs for beer tokens.

Are your skills not transferable to a military environment ghetto e.g. an engineering corps?

^^^ This

We're gonna play off RS's foot fetish and let him star in a new flick called: "Big Feet, Flacid Meat" with the subtitle "Bridging the gap between the barefoot and bareback experience". Vibrams is sponsoring it.

I'm feeling fine today. Got my adjustment. Told the chiro about what happened. Mostly I just had a few minor tweaks here and there in my upper back which have been areas that go out of alignment over time if I don't keep up with semi-regular visits. Nothing in particular to note from the impact at work. I had him do a little work on my hips and had him check out my knees. Everything's cool.

As for work. I don't know, but maybe my response wasn't obvious, but I coulda swore I had mentioned having 30+ applications out to all the major retailers around and have done dozens of walk-ins at random businesses. NOBODY is fucking hiring.

That is why I am offloading trucks and doing other random menial labor for minimum wage.

I have retail experience. I have had customer service training. I'm an awesome worker. Nobody is hiring. I see jobs here and there looking for people, but they are looking for people skilled in the field of work they are in. Not some total noob to it.

I really think alot of people have NO clue just how bad it is out here if you have a steady full time job. I know I didn't when I was still working a good job.

Not only that, but the competition is insane. Tons of people looking for anything that are way over qualified even for crap jobs like being a grocery bagger or fast food employee.

It's going to get far worse too. There's so much uncertainty out there about taxes, health care costs and energy that all the employers are frozen in place. Right now the only safe things to do are freeze hiring, outsource overseas and cut domestic costs.

i said a TEST.... i said a TEST ENANTHATE....

hope you hold out for some fat pay day pockets orb. i would have filed a claim in a heartbeat! bottom line you could have been seriously phucking hurt, like paralyzed or some shit. and then your post count would be sky high around here. i can't have that!

i remember working at this temp agency in high school. i was suppose to be working with computers. they had me doing mole work that wasn't even relevant to the company. i got a vicious paper cut on my thumb from a cardboard box and jokingly said i was going to file a workmans comp claim. the lady who hired me didn't take it as a joke gave me 200 bucks in petty cash and gave me the boot. i had already talked with the director about quitting the day before for lack of responsibilities, and he was cool with it. got the 2 weeks pay they owed me and i considered the extra 200 a "firing bonus"

I "could" have been injured. If I had been seriously concerned I had been I woulda told the supervisor when we left the site that I was gonna file an injury report to the temp agency.

2 people saw it happen and I had the bruises and skin bruises in rows on my upper thigh where the top ridges of the cans hit me as well as a nice blue bruise in my hip crease.

Luckily it was all superficial. Lifted weights today and felt absolutely fine. Ya never know, I could end up working for the company hiring me through the temp agency full time. It's a natiowide company. "Hint" garbage cans.

I question your patriotism if you didn't get at least 2 weeks off with pay and a script for Soma and Vicondin ES.

Litigation is teh American way!

bro there is opportunity with the fed, dept of ag hires operators
they don't make as much as private bros but it's a good job proly GS 8-9 to start off

GS equalivent to WG operator is 8 or 9
:sperm:

Nope ... WG doesn't not make equivalent to GS in the same grade, e.g. as WG 8 step 1 doesn't compare to a GS-8 step 1.

Totally different pay scale geared for blue collar workers based on an hourly wage that follow different T&A regs including night differntial.

Although in some parts an Equipment Operator can break 6 figures with OT.
