I steer clear of those "factory refurbished" electronics of theirs. I tried one of those once and got burned.

Utah based company. I used to know one of the partners and that fucker made something like $30M when they sold. I think he's 28 now.
The dick.
<-- Marketing manager for the company that supplies the refurbished computers to overstock, buy.com, amazon, tigerdirect, and microcenter. I would have told you not to buy one.
Can you elaborate?
Aren't refurbished electronics "redone" to original factory specs and are subject to the same QC evaluations?
I bought a $350 refurb digital camera from tigerdirect.com for $49 and it's worked fine.
we want you to think that's true, but it's not.
we remanufacture every brand from apple, dell, toshiba, hp, lenovo/ibm, panasonic, to brands you've never heard of. the manufacturer couldn't care less what happens to it. The only place that DOES care, is microsoft- we are one of the only authorized microsoft refurbishers (there are really only around 2 dozen).
which means that the operating system you get from us is clear, good, and legal but will the machine work the way it's advertised? not necessarily.
I will buy refurbished pillows and bedsheets from them
I purchased new sheets and a blanket from Overstock today. Pretty standard issue though
Should have consulted with some of you "fellows" that have a eye for design before I placed my order.
just sayin'
just run one of those blue CSI lights they use for finding jiz stains bor. problem solved.
stiletto did you get a degree in marketing?

So "factory refurbished" doesn't mean the product went back to the original manufacturer for reconditioning? Wow I always thought it meant the original manufacturer did the work.
At the time I bought it though I believe Becoming's Avatar was a member here. She and I didn't talk much.![]()
lol, no.
it means we refurbished in our "factory" as opposed to "someone's basement".
there's no standards though, so technically I could fix it myself and say it's "factory refurbished". There's absolutely nothing legal from stopping me.
OMG what a scam. Using the word "factory" is obviously intentionally misleading.
We use it, and I suppose it's true, since we are an actual computer refurbisher. Are we as big as Dell? no. We have around 60 people working in our "factory", many of whom don't speak english. If we cut our staff in half, we'd still use it. and if we cut that in half, we'd still use it... there's no legal term for "factory".
we are, however, a microsoft authorized refurbisher and like I said, there's very few in the country.
Seems like "Dell" and other name brands would be concerned about substandard products released in the market refurbs or not.

on the flip side, my boss is having dinner with steve ballmer next week in DC.
