my sister in law is one of them. she's a feng shui consultant who is always talking about energies. Meanwhile, she's 32, single, and hangs out with her other strange single loser friends.

so i have some new neighbors down the road. I went for a walk before and they were outside (they close on the house tomorrow). I introduced myself and told them my daughter is looking for a babysitting job. they were thrilled.
the husband tells me he's a civil rights attorney. great. the wife tells me she does crystal heeling and will set up her shop in the garage.
she asked if i need any heeling.
no no. i'm good. perfectly healthy.
She tells me she can cure bad vibes and other shit.
no no. i'm good with that too.

friggin' loons.

:lmao:

Believe it or not, a lot of pagans and wiccans often feel the same way you do. One of the favorite comments goes like this: "You know what they say about New Age? Rhymes with sewage."

I won't paint it all with the same brush because my personal experience is like anything else, you need to sort the wheat from the chaff. Often you run into a situation where the system might have some validity, but if the practitioner, no matter how well intentioned, is clueless, shit probably ain't gonna work.

Granted, people can convince themselves of a lot of stuff (doctors discovered the efficacy of sugar pills ages ago) and if they feel better/happier/calmer in the end I guess it's money well spent.

I love fucking with "crystal" people. Since I am a geologist I start blurting out scientific definitions of the crystalline structure, chemical make-up, etc... They usually get frustrated and walk away because I can't feel the energy coming off their crystals.LOL

Oh and what's wrong with being 32 and single?:worried:

Cheers,
Scotsman

did the civil rights attorney sue you for denying his wife the right of giving you crystal treatment?

hehehe this is good bro material

Maybe the loons are the ones who have it right. Maybe if you're blissfully ignorant about the world around you, you can sleep easier at night. It would help explain my insomnia.

Well, you see that was sort of the point I had in my earlier post. If it makes people happy and works for them who are any of you to criticize? Just because what someone does is different or strange to you, if they find it fill some niche in their life, so what? People on this board have their electronic gadgets, or shopping or working out or getting high in one form or another or obsessions with sex or porn and those are acceptable. If someone likes fondling crystals or chanting or designing their house according to the principals of feng shui and they "feel" energies and they find it makes their life easier, they can smile easier, sleep better at night, or whatever, why is it okay to criticize that while another person who is using steroids, dropping major coin on a home theater system or whatever is acceptable? I particularly find the mockery sad from people who are supposed to be in industries that concern themselves with people's mental and physical health well being.

When people are happy, their stress levels go down, levels of hormones that cause inflammation go down, blood pressure reduces and heart rate slows. IMO, if playing with crystals brings someone stress levels down, it does, technically, in some small part, improve their health.

I had to take my daughter into an interview at 5:00 am and we needed to go to Kinko's to pick-up her science fair project at 3:00am. On talk radio, this complete pair of stoner new-age wierdo's were being interviewed.

They are setting up 11 transcendental meditation centers all over the world. These people will begin meditating between now and 2012 to transform us from a technology-based to a spiritually-based society. Apparently once their meditation efforts are amplified by the planets lining-up, we will all begin focusing on each other's spiritual and energy needs instead of pursuing material goods.

Oh, and they said the reason they knew all this was coming is because the number "11" is appearing too often now. This number is some sort of signal that the psychic energies of the universe are aligning.

Stop defending Christians like that.

:)

LOL@this thread. Living in the bible belt I don't come across too many new age wierdos. I do, however, run into my fair share of thumpers. The new agers may be fruity but the thumpers IMHO are waaaaaaaaaaaaaay worse.

Or maybe not... all about perception.

I guess when anyone presses their beliefs (however radical or socially accepted) they may be, those of us who do not share these beliefs feel put off once they get past the point of entertaining us.

Punch her in the gall bladder.

Ah, I was fully expecting a comment to that effect.

My problem is not, and has never been with Christians (or any religion, per se). My problem is with people who tell me that because I follow a non Christian religion I am, unequivocally, WRONG, ergo, condemned to hell, and then when they go into great detail enumerating the "Biblical facts" to justify their condemnation. My problem is with the people out there who claim to know the mind of God, and how God judges me, my beliefs, etc.

Let's face it, you're guilty of the same thing, only in reverse. Because those people want to promote something you don't understand (transcendental meditation) in your mind they automatically are stoner weirdos (granted, their beliefs are weird to you, but do you know they smoke dope?) I just don't see what's wrong with hoping for a kinder, gentler society, and if they want to help people learn how to meditate, it's not like that's going to hurt anyone. Meditation in no way is a threat to any organized religion and has been proven to have beneficial effects on health and stress levels.

Actually I've always felt any person who is serious about their faith should meditate as well as pray because it's said that while prayer is speaking to God, meditation is listening to hear God speak to you.

I came home from my walk and my daughter, who was waiting for dinner, asked what took so long. I said i met the new neighbors and they want a babysitter.
She was SO excited... until i told her that the mother does crystal healing in her garage.

My daughter (she's totally me) was like, "crap. crazy people".

^^ Great point of view.

I admit though, that I am guilty of thinking off the bat that some of these people are crazy. I suppose to me for someone to be THAT off the wall "in your face" about their beliefs is as bad as "nutjob" christians doing the same. The only difference (that I can think of) is that the new age people, while they may seem *out there* aren't condemning me to hell. So I guess they are pretty harmless.

... that is, unless they drink the blood of unborn children... like I do. ;)

Exclusivity is one of the tenets of their religion. Sure, they think I'm going to hell -- but why do I care? One of these guys can claim a direct line to God as well -- yeah, I don't care about that either. And lots of people tell me things that annoy me every day. Hell, I don't want to hear another word ever about Michael Jackson.

The two people being interviewed sounded like the two principal characters on the movie: "Dude, Where's My Car?". Plus they went on and on about expanding their own consciousness and how our existence should be restored to its natural state. I'm gonna go with the odds on this one and label them stoners.

There's nothing wrong with extolling the values of meditation, nor is there anything wrong with extolling the values of christianity, scientology, Judaism or any other religion for that matter. It's just some of them are funnier to me than others.

stilletto, what exactly was she doinng in her garage? If by "crystal healing" she's referring to how crystal bowls vibrate when you run something around the edge.....than that's actually not bad stuff. Those bowls are remarkably expensive, but they produce sounds that are "incredible". I couldn't possibly describe how the sound permeates through you. Whether these things have lasting ramifications or not, I have no idea......but I know you do feel better afterwards. They can offer any sort of new age explanations they want, like it "aligns" your chakra's......I dunno, I just know that I've been in the presence of those bowls while they're being lit up.......and it's incredible, especially the big ones that you can feel hitting you lower in the body. I know a girl who was a bodybuilder and she lost her period for over a year. She sat in on one of those sessions and than literally "exploded" down there later that night. She called me up the next day practically crying she was so happy. She had gone to see alot of specialists and the medical community was telling her she may never get it back. :whatever: take that for what you will.

I understand your perspective on the other two points so I'm just singling this out. I reiterate, I fail to see how the idea of trying to expand your consciousness (which is another way of saying thinking beyond the conventional societal paradigms) is bad and necessarily means someone uses dope. I believe in expanding one's consciousness, and haven't touched marijuana (or any other illegal, mind altering substance) since I was in my late teens.

As far as judging people by the way they speak, if that were the case then every Southerner with a heavy accent is an ignorant redneck, every New Yorker an aggressive asshole, every person from the better parts of England Oxford educated and gentile, etc.

Tell, me, Plunk, what's wrong with encouraging people to think beyond the here and now, the shit you can touch and how to make more money? What's wrong with encouraging people to just take five minutes to think about something other than how to get ahead? What's wrong with telling people to take five minutes and think about how they can change their small piece of the universe? Because that's all any of us can really do, y'know. What's wrong with picking up that aluminum can you see lying on the ground in your parking lot and making sure it gets into recycling or smiling at a stranger and wishing them, sincerely, a nice day. Expanding your consciousness means living consciously, and thoughtfully instead of just existing.

You're equating someone's individual effort to pick up an aluminum can with two people trying to psychically align their spiritual energies so as to transform the entire world from a technology-based to a psychic-energy based society?

And you're suuuuuuure you haven't smoked any herb since your teens? I KID! :) :) :)

In all fairness, you're comparing apples to nuclear explosions here.

Perception is reality. You BOTH get to be *right* in this arguement.

Well, clearly you are not a philosopher, or a Buddhist, or a Kaballist, or a quantum physicist because in my world picking up that alumnium can is EXACTLY the same as aligning their spiritual energies, if they normally wouldn't pick up that can. They're effecting change, in effecting change, they evolve.

Bikinimom has it. Perception is reality, and reality doesn't exist. Frankly, nothing exists, and the philosphers knew that long before science discovered atoms, and in discovering atoms discovered that more than 90% of an atom is made of nothing.

If you consider any natural thing long enough, you can come to an understanding of any other natural thing and eventually you can find a connection between those things and in that way eventually find a connection between everything in the universe.

well, i don't know what she's going to do with the crystals. although i do think that stress and relaxation can effect your health (both for bad and good), the only way i can see crystals heeling anything is if the loony patient feels they were heeled and then relaxes themselves into actually feeling better. It's a mind thing- since i think if someone could convince those same people that peanut butter has heeling properties, that would work too.

Word up YO
MM... I JUST GOT A QLINK for me and Thands.... Help center your biofield and protect against emf destabilozation... I feel alot more energetic. I Bought the one dedocated to Lynne McTaggart.

yeah if she's just got a bunch of crystals lying around and she wants to put them all over you.....ehhhh. But if she's got those perfectly tuned crystal bowls, go listen to em.....at the very least it's a trippy experience without having to take drugs, although I can imagine if you smoked a little pot and then went you would have your mind blown wide open. The sound waves really do travel through you, best as I can describe it. There's a reason why those bowls are ridiculously expensive, and it's not just because they're made of crystal. I think one bowl, especially the bigger ones that are lower in the octave range........can run almost a grand for the good ones that are pure or almost pure crystal.

I personally prefer aligning my energies with a young, tall blonde chicka. I'll leave all the contemplation of bellybuttons to someone else.

Crystal singing bowls are actually on my dream list of "shit I'd love to get." I found a few places on the internet where I could get a chakra tuned set for under $1,500. Actually, even brass singing bowls can be ridiculously expensive.
