to take an 8-10 step start and punch or kick (your choice) me in the balls or face (again your choice) if you see me ever do any of the following:

1) Curling in the squat rack
2) Come to think of it, curling at all
3) Wearing a belt during tricep work
4) Doing 2" rack pulls
5) Using pretty much any machine for upper body work
6) Using a leg press for more than one leg at a time
7) Lunges
8) A swiss ball
9) Pilates
10) Andy class offered by Gold's Gym

There may be more, but this is a good start.

Yeah that's pretty weak. Most guys curl less than 135. Why not just pick the bar up off the ground to start your set? Some things I'll never understand.

I would say any leg machine, for one leg or 2 should be on that list. As well as wearing a belt for anything other than max weight for Deadlift and Squats, even then it is questionable.

And I would like to add wearing wraps for anything.

One time a guy was soing curls with 75lbs on the bar in the squat rack. I asked him if i could work in as I wanted to do squats. He said, "no I am working here". I told him he could do curls anywahere, I need this squat rack as it is the only place in the gym I could do squats.

He tried to tell me to use the leg press machine. I told him if he is curling that weight, there is no reason he shouldn't be able to pick up the weight form the floor. He pouted for a while until I finally said, ok if it is that heavy I'll pick the weight up form the floor and put it on the squat rack for you in between sets. He realised he was being a tool and did his curls elsewhere.

I agree with everything that you said except two things:

1- do legg press with me and I'll make a single plate seem like 15 plates on each side :)

2- curling is waaaay underrated (yes deadlifts are good and all, but unless you are curling you will not get the desired effect, i dont care what anyone says - i'm talking bodybuilding and not powerlifting)

What a douche nugget.

Luckily my gym has three racks. One is usually available.

Add wearing gloves to your list. Unless they match your purse :)

wearing gloves pisses me off too...lol

it defeats the purpose of being HARDCORE

unless you're doing mma like me, then you better wear a glove

That gym only had one squat stand (not even a rack), it was always filled with tools doing anything but squatting.

Ya, gloves and wrist wraps have to be on that list.

I'll take you up on #1 - could be fun. But for me biceps are just ornaments on the christmas tree.

Lunges are great for muscle building purposes they hit my glutes really well and also the quads quite a bit. I think you should replace lunges with anything in the smith machine other than rack chins.

i agree and all but curling in the SQUAT rack is another story.

and might i add.....this applies only to powerlifting people. just want to make it clear so if some newbs come in that are wanting to do bb routine and listen to this.

I almost bought a pair of gloves the other day. I was doing my last set of deads and ripped the callous under my middle finger completely off (second time this has happened).

I got blood all over the bar and I felt pretty shitty about it, I tried to clean it up but some of it just wouldnt come off. I don't think anyone saw it so I just put the bar back on the rack and walked out.

Yup.

All this only applies to guys that only know how to do 3 lifts.

I don't even wear a glove in the bedroom!

File your calluses smooth with a pumice stone. This will keep them from ripping out :)

Ya sometimes the knurling on some bars is pretty rough. At my old gym there was a bar that had finer knurling on the grip, I would use that bar for rep sets. The other bar had really coarse knurling, I used it for one rep max work outs only (deadlift) as if I used it for reps it would tear my callouses right off.

Your hand will heal by the next Dl day and it is still no excuse for gloves.

Yup.

I am not a power lifter per say, but I do agree with the things in this thread as a standard for anyone looking to get into strength training for what ever reasons.

No reason the beginner lifter can't start with good training practices, it will save them time in the long run, not having to learn the hard way and all.

thank god i do smith squats instead of regular ones as of now.
no curlers around me. someone would have to be completely stupid to curl in a smith machine.

there are those that like to do sit ups on the decline bench

then there are those that like to take up the lat pulldown station with tricep exercises, when there is a place for those

I've seen it. Nothing surprises me now.

The stupidest thing I have ever seen in a gym......Now think about this one......I saw a guy doing BB shrugs while talking on a cell phone. He didn't have a blue tooth either. He was holding the phone to his hear with his shoulder. While shrugging. Nice posture buddy. lol

One more to the list.....Talking on your cell phone while working out. You are not that fucking important. Unless you are running a business or are a Doctor on call, leave your fucking cell phone in the locker.

Dunno which is worse, the phone/shrugger or a guy I saw who was standing in the walk in squat rack doing DB curls and then just putting the db's on the floor in between each set... :faint:
