Benefits of 1 Week Off?

Letting your body fully recover. Just remember it is a week off from training NOT eating!
 
Some times I take a week off, and come back weak and struggle with light weights.

Some times I take a week off, and feel stronger and pull some PR's.

It's a funny thing.


--- That didn't really help answer your question at all. I'll try again. Taking time off, allows your body and mind to repair itself. I've seen studies stating that it can take up to 10-14 days to fully recover from a single intense workout. Don't take that to mean that you only need to workout once every two weeks.
 
best thing about it is afterwords, i cant wait to get back into it. i'm all pumped up and ready to hit the gym..hard, which is better than going in there with a half-hearted mood( and that happens alot to me)

also i find with the time off, it hardens my resolve in terms of goals and whatnot. also see which body parts need more work, strength,ect. (lol..for me, everywhere)

Taking a week off is only good if you are being consistent with your training for along time.

Most important is what BK said, You got keep eating!
 
If you've been accumulating some fatigue, a week off (or deload) just allows you to recover and should allow you to come back stronger. If you get weaker, you either didn't deload properly or didn't need it.

It's important to note than a "week off" doesn't necessarily mean you sit on your ass doing nothing. You should ideally still stay relatively active so you don't become "neurally stale". A good strategy I like is the "Prehab" deload that Eric Cressey has written about.
 
its difficult for me to talk a week off..when the only thing you look forward to is the gym!!>.maybe its because im on cycle! haha
