TUNA the protein killer!

jacshelb said:
Seriously though, there has to be tuna you can buy that is mercury free right? or more safe? idk.
yes there is but none of it comes in a 99 cent can. Too much of anything is bad and that is why I don't rely on Tuna for my protein like so many do

I have been eatting canned tuna for decades. I'm not crazy about the stuff, But I have never suffered any adverse health reactions because of it.

I only eat it because it's quick and easy, and pure protein.
2 cans; chop up some onion and celery and add a tsp of olive oil, Pepper.
It's a good quick, inexpesive way to get 60+ grams of protein.

Only negative is that you smell like you been eatting pussy for hours with out the benefit of doing it.

If the bitches pussy smells or tastes like tuna dont eat it!!!!!!!
really no more than 2 cans per week.too much mercury can hurt you.

tell her it's that or all the steroids that beef and chicken have in them..

why is she trying to kill you??

they use so called "statistics" and these frigging "research" techniques to prove just about anything nowadays!!!

well i don't buy it!!! im going to eat extra tuna from now on!! the cheapest kind i can find and hopefully the cans are rusty

:D

you might as well stay home on the couch if your gonna avoid everything that will kill ya. you can get killed at the gym, just read all the warnings on the equipment. im eating a bag of microwave popcorn and my wife tells me, while shes smoking a cigarette, that they just found out that micrwave popcorn causes cancer and i shouldnt eat it anymore. i just looked at the bag and asked where the surgen generals warning was...............

I would be more worried about injectioning yourself with cattle steroids lol....btw its ok too eat a can a day if rachael ray mixes it in that "garbage bowl" she calls a twat, her vaginal enzymes will cleans the fish of magnesium and waa laa healthy tuna!

I'm weary of media hype. Don't eat that, or drink more of this, ect.
Heavy Duty has the right idea. Rotate your food staples and suplement with the basic vitamins and minerals.
That said; I'm currently expermenting with ACV - apple cider vinegar.

I thought it was mercury not magnesium. I think all ocean game fish are high in mercury, you're actually better off with the cheap $.50 cans because light tuna has less mercury than albacore.

Really? I love the alby, but I found a case of Bumble Bee spring fresh at Smiths for about .25 a can that I've been forcing myself to eat twice a week.

my friend died of a tuna overdose, it was quite serious. When he died so suddenly we knew something was fishy though.

yeah bro youre correct on that one. Albacore lives longer and so absorbs more mercury than the cheap tuna does. I have eaten loads of tuna in the past but I don't go for more than 3 or 4 cans a week now, that mercury poisoning is nothing to laugh at. Heavy metals are bad news and tough to get rid of once you get them. I don't eat 21 cans of tuna a week anymore for the same reason I don't shoot 3 grams of test a week along with a 1400 mg of tren =) [a bit of health concern, and a bit of personal preference]

tuna is a great source of protein, and low in calories. believe me, i dont think you have to worry about over dosing on tuna! lol, ....just make sure it is store bought, and dont try and make your own

You'll be fine. Theres always conflicting research with this kind of thing. Food causes cancer, damages your immune system, ect, ect, and more BS. I don't believe a tenth of it. A ton of guys here have lived with eating a lot of tuna for a long time and are fine.

I eat 2 of these a day, cost about 1.10$ a piece though I buy them in 5 packs.

It's all good in moderation of course. Make sure the can is in date. Lots of damaged shet ends up at the dollar store. Even some name brands are made by cheaper manufactures and sold at tuna for less. I only eat a couple certain brands because of the good taste.

Tunas great by itself, Ill dump a can on my salad alot of the time.
Also will do the salmon and tuna for about a week and then switch up.
The challenge for me is not getting bored eating the same thing.

Ten years ago the scare existed about mercury in Tuna. At the same time I ate 10 can of Tuna a day, no lie. Mercury can effect your nervous system and mind. I had no side effects then, nor now ten years later. Stop worrying and eat as much tuna as you can bear. My greatest gains came from eating lots of Tuna. Better gains than drinking protein drinks, eggs, whey, or beef. Not to say the Tuna supply is getting lower in the oceans, but that's another story in itself.

Lady at work was in the hospital a week as she was eating 3-4 cans a day for the better part of a year and the mercury build up screwed her health up baaaaad

some cans of tuna have no mercury. some have tons.

unless you go and have it tested now way to know.. so yeah you can eat 8 cans of day and have no problem theoretically.

you can also catch fish from the ocean and it is riddled with mercury. just depends where you catch them. here in FL they have mercury warnings all the time up. we have people get hospitalized for too much mercury (mostly Asians who eat a lot of wild fish and do not understand the warnings).. happens all the time.

now if you buy farm raised fish from the store now you are getting hormones and steroids in low doses.

in conclusion I will take a little mercury from wild fish over farm raised hormones ANYDAY. plus wild tastes so much better, they feed farm raised fish processed trash.

fish once or twice a week is fine, unless you plan on living to 120.. the mercury buildup in the body will not bother you.

Tuna has .38 parts per MILLION of mercury according to FDA data. Well, well, well below the acceptable guidelines for human consumption. I once went SIX MONTHS eating eight cans every single day, WITHOUT EXAGGERATION, and was absolutely fine in every way.

Yeah and a lady I worked with ate a couple of cans a day for the same period and ended up in the hospital from it... Mercury concentration is like anything else, it varies wildly by area. Just like Boron, air quality, population density, everything. It's not a 'everything on earth has the exact same amount of mercury' thing.

OMG, that's tuna out the window then.... All these supposedly healthy foods have more rubbish in them than junk food does. I'll bet a chocolate bar doesn't have mercury in it.

Lol go eat 8 candy bars a day then and see what happens

Maybe she was an unhealthy cow to begin with? Luckily, as long as there is no Kryptonite in the can, it will be alright for me, hahaha! You're right I suppose about the mercury concentration varying. I always go with all white albacore name brand.

that's canned tuna everyone is talking about...what about fresh tuna. you guys think its all the same? I love fresh tuna.

Yah, but I think that's because its the type cheapest and easiest for us to eat. But mercury is very dense and settles to the bottom of the ocean floor. As it is taken in by the fish that feed of the floor it is stored in their fat. Therefore the fish that live longest get some of the highest concentrations of mercury in their bodies. Tuna feed off bottom feeders and therefore get fairly high concentrations of mercury in their bodies(Credit my Biochem Professor - we just recently talked about this in class). So I feel like whether it was canned or fresh wouldn't change this.

That being said... I eat a can of tuna everyday. I think you would need to eat quite a bit for it to actually become a serious threat. The real threat is to smaller children, who such small concentrations could still effect, because they are much smaller than us. So I wouldn't recommend feeding your four year old a can a day (if you can get them to eat it). It could potentially build up over time and lead to brain damage.

And if your with me on eating tuna, little good sandwhich recipe I found today:

1 Can Albacore tuna, two slices whole wheat bread, handfull of organic spring lettuce mix, and a tablespoon of light balsamic vinagrette. I spread the balsamic into the bread, and then put the tuna on the bread, spread it around and put the lettuce on top. Delicious!
