The number of points necessary for significance varies as a function of the characteristics of the data.

For example, if you're trying to measure a structure that's 3 cm^2 and one averages 3.1 cm^2 +/- 0.1 and the other group averages 3.2 +/- 0.1, you're going to need many, many subjects (thousands, I'd guess). But if your first 20 points come out at 3.2 +/- 0.1 and your test group is 1.5 +/- 0.1, you're probably done.

And no, I haven't read the original study yet. But the authors did cite a "graded response" which is a sciencey way to imply that their data is pretty strong.

^^^ and even with that said, I'd be suspicious of pro and anti-pot studies just because so much lobbying and money is going behind it.

At least with pot, it's probably easy to get funded by saying it's completely harmless and easy to get funded by saying it will destroy you. There's no money in the middle.

With global warming (oh wait... Climate Change), you only get your money if you say its true. You know, like the sound of one hand clapping.

I'm sure they'll fight back and forth for decades.

I just think it's funny that the government spends billions on an anti-smoking campaign for cigarettes yet is quietly paving the way for pot.

But it might make sense. Hydros keep patients out of hospitals and clinics and plants them on their couches instead. Maybe pot will keep citizens fogged-out and placated instead of being loud and disruptive.

Pot may be the new opiate of the masses! Or have hydros already captured that title?

Big pharma sells those pills for pennies a piece. It's hard to make big money on pennies.

Now payers (insurers) for on the other hand... You can buy a lot of pain pills for the cost of a single $58,000 spinal surgery on a patient that will need the next level fused in three years, then another level in three more.

And you'd think it's those mean, greedy insurance companies that are pushing patients this way. Know who opened the road and paved the way for those insurance companies? Medicare and Medicaid did -- it's how they'll try to make the numbers work.

more baseless assumptions..keep em coming. I smoked pot in my teens literally 2 or 3 times. It wasn't till my late 20's when I was in CA that I got into it. If I was still there I"d probably do it more often but now, I probably smoke a handful of times a year, about as much as I drink.
