Steroids and domestic violence

My ex boyfriend who is a former UFC fighter attacked me a couple of times throughout our relationship, well our relationship has ended but we have a 8 month old baby together and he is claiming that the steroids and alcohol made him do it, I don't know much about steroids and now he wants visitations of our baby but I'm nervous to agree because what if he ends up hurting her and I basically wanna know if steroids do that, he stopped doing them about 3 months and things got a bit better but I wanna make sure before letting him spend time with our innocent child, is the steroids? Is it the alcohol? Or is it the fact that he's a fighter that has viewed domestic violence in his own home growing up? Any information would be great, him coming after me at 6'2+ was bad enough I don't want him taking things out on our 8 month old.

Since you're worried about it get a court order for supervised visits for a while to see how he is doing. Steroids can make people more aggressive, as can alcohol. It's relative to the person though, some people are happy drunks, some go the other way. Just look out for your baby, if he's truly changed he will also have the baby's best interest at heart. Sorry there is not a simple yes or no answer to this kind of question.

I'm sorry to hear this

To answer your question, no, it's not the steroids. Steroids don't make men into assholes but they certainly won't calm down someone who is already unstable and psychotic. Although you've heard of the "roid rage" myths, it is only a handful of men who are mentally unstable. Introducing steroids into the equation only contributes to their destructive tendencies. Alcohol causes bar fights to break out every day but you don't see the media trashing alcoholics, only the rare instance that someone goes nuts who happens to be using steroids. Your concern shouldn't be his steroid use, but his abuse of alcohol. I question whether he is fit to be around a child, even completely sober. He obviously has underlying issues

well I have taken AAS for like 6+ some years, natural supplements longer and have been hitting the gym for the better part of 17 or 18 years now and I have not once put my hands on a woman.

so I would say this guy is a POS. I wish you would have gotten to know him better before having a kid with him, he sounds like trouble and your future bf's are going to run away fast.

I would agree that you CAN become more aggressive on AAS, but not always.. I am calm as a cucumber on them as long as I get my baby batter out or hit the gym hard to release all that aggression. you would think someone who beats up other people for a living would be smart enough to put his anger properly but I guess not.

as far as alcohol if you look up the stats and look around at friends/family its obvious that its the biggest problem facing society. its disappointing that its glorified on tv and its considered cool to be drunk and all that. like the poster above said there are happy drunks and their are asshole drunks.

in any event the bottom line is this guy doesn't sound like the brightest bulb and you should find a guy who will treat you better

also people like your X piss me off because they make all responsible steroid users look like abusive assholes. no different then people who drink and get behind the wheel and kill the father driving home from work to support his family.

sad that i'll never be able to have a guy around cause he'll run away which is most likely true cause i doubt someone would wanna fight him but thanks for the information :-)

that guy is an awful lot of baggage! but there are guys out there who will look past it. some of us have crazy exes too so it evens out. lol

but seriously your main dilemma is trying to keep this nut away from you and your kid.. imagine spending the next 18 years having to drop your kid off with this nut every weekend? I would find yourself a good lawyer.. if he comes after you or your new bf/husband one day is he going to keep blaming steroids and alcohol?

I would cut my ties with this degenerate. He is violence prone hence the tough guy UFC BS. Now, you and your child deserve better in life. Let me ask you this? Does he have a job? Does he have a future? A career? Where will he be in 5 , 10, 15 years and retirement age? Will you be struggling financially because he is immature? If he is in the UFC , this tells me he probably has severe self image issues and will probably not be able to hold a job due to this attitude. Now, do yourself a favor and take a restraining order out on him. Make it clear in the restraining order that he is physically abusive etc: Move on and find someone that you can have a nice life with that will love you and can provide for you. Also, if you are out with someone else or he acts or says he is going to beat someone you are seeing up, have him arrested immediately and put his immature UFC ass in prison where he can fulfill his tough guy dreams around guys that will surely beat him. MOVE ON

Well he is self employed but I'll be fine money wise, he's already state that any new male around the baby will be "taken care of"... I was looking more to see if it his environment that he grew up in or the steroids but I think I got my answer

take the steroids away from him and he would be the exact same person. its a cop out to blame them.

also he sounds tough wanting to 'take care of' anyone around your kid.

@Arabian just because of this one douche don't trash someone just because they're in the UFC and "violence prone". If he really did make it to the UFC he is at the pinnacle of his sport and you obviously have no idea what it takes to get there !

From my experience if someone is prone to violence or has a short temper steroids will make it worse. This doesn't happen to everyone though, they won't change a person.

Quit making excuses for the MMA punk and kick him OUT. MOVE ON take care of HIM....If you stay with him, you will be in a cycle of ongoing domestic violence and live a subpar life.. Find someone that has a real job and mature

There's no such thing as "roid rage" I can't stand when people talk about all of these side affects of steroid "abuse"! Lmfao. IMO he's probably a dick to begin with, then add in alcohol which is the biggest social disruption known to man and you have your problem. Steroids are a great tool both medically and recreationally.

Yea we aren't together and won't be ever but now I don't want him around my child and that's the main problem.

His loss... He should have thought about that before he laid a hand on you. The child doesn't need an abusive influence in their life.

go to the courts. Him blaming steroids is an excuse. He'd be an asshole without the steroids. You want to know what made him the way he is? It's a combo of everything. But likely the least of that is due to steroids. Alcohol is a big one. He grew up with domestic violence? Well that is another major contributor.

Go to court. Get a restraining order or supervised visits. At some point he needs to be able to see his kid, unless he is a direct danger to her. Best of luck.

Yea I'm trying to get him to release his rights but he is refusing and I know it's my fault too I should have left before but I wanted so bad to change him and learned that can't be done.

No unfortunately once someone has crossed that line there's no going back. He may have been a product of his evironment, but he made the choice to be an abusive pussy. No real man would ever harm a woman, let alone one they claim to love. I've been on steroids for years and never come off them, and I've never once laid a finger on my wife in anger, or hurt one of my children. That is a bs copout to excuse his behavior. There's only two ways to fix someone like that, professional help or a bullet. The best thing you can do is keep you and your child far away from him until he gets help, or gets himself killed from being a tough guy. It would also be wise to get a restraining order. That will help ensure he doesn't get visitation with the baby and make getting full custody easier. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.
