I believe the cargo pant marathon is the only one that requires people to qualify in order to run in it. This was a national/ international event. Just like Sandy Hook or any other tragedy, if you don't have loved ones involved, you're no more important than anyone else.

I also kind of get how it can be being near a tragic event w/o cell service and wondering if people you care about were involved and why you might feel a little more personally involved
I spent a couple of hrs after it happened trying to get a hold of a family I knew from Ct that had moved up to Boston, they went to AZ for a vacation that morning and were nowhere near it thank god.

Im sure 9/11 felt very personal to New Yorkers
Sandy Hook/Newtown felt very personal to people in CT
I'm sure the Boston Marathon feels really personal to bean town

That vibe is not only from Canadians, but most of the free world. My American friends are conveying my same sentiments! Emotions are running pretty high, true!

i dont think bombing is good on this thread....i remember making a thread the other day about mopping during that shooting and i got flamed...why is this any different. i know shirls means no harm and thats why i love her!

Back to the real bombing, I was just told they have footage of a dude placing a bag at one of the blast sites and walking back to the other site on the phone. Any truth to this? I'm at work and can't find dick about it on the news

Yep, CNN is reporting it. An arrest has been made, but no other details yet.
