Got my first K.O. this weekend in Karate.

Knockouts aren't the goal of Karate tournaments, but I took this guy's head off with a spinning hook kick.

Guy dropped on his face cold, it took him about 30 seconds to come to. I felt way bad about it.

Was your opponent 13?

12 bro

No, he was mid 20's. He was actually a decent fighter. Quick, good footwork. He just made a mistake by telegraphing a high round kick that I dodged and countered. He left his hands down and ate my heel right into the back of his head.

You run into quite a few "blackbelts" that are completely hopeless cases, but I only compete in tournaments where you don't run into that crap. When I first started training, I faced a guy who was ranked 2nd degree, me a yellow belt, and this guy was pathetic. Seriously, how anyone could award 2nd degree to someone so obviously incapable is beyond me.

Being able to leg press 1500 lbs, I love smashing people with side kicks. Being big and heavy with that kind of power scares people when the feel that, even if it's blocked.

When I got my black belt in kukoshin karate (sp?) I have to face 4 black belts not simultaneously but round robin. I destroyed them. Lifting weights does crazy things for strength in martial arts

Only to a certain point. I need to stop lifting doesn't really do anything now for my grappling strength or punching power for that matter.

For punching power, you're probably right. There gets a pont where being way strong didn't really matter anymore.

For grappling, lifting weights and being strong makes a massive difference everywhere for me. Grip, leverage, power, stability, etc all make a huge difference.

I've done multiple opponents simultaneously, and all I can say is that if you're cornered by a group, you're at their mercy. You can't fight lots of people all at once like that. If it's like 3, you have a chance, 4 or more and you're screwed.

In succession is different. You get tired, but if you have good technique and skill you can survive and walk away relatively unscathed even against decently trained guys. Maybe a black eye or a bloody nose. Against several world class guys in a row is impossible, you'll get destroyed.
