Bro nice workout. I'm liking that you pointed out that it's better to undertrained than overtrain. I am learning that right now with a bicep injury and a pinched back nerve. I thought it was only natural to get better results u must train harder. But that's not entirely the case. And now in my instance next to no training is my result of overtraining. Keep posting man I'm following along bro.

Not only does overtraining make one more susceptible to injuries, it also hinders muscle growth. The majority of the people you will encounter in this sport overtrain. I read and see it all the time. They have not conquered the psychological aspect of weight training, which is you don't have to do a 1,000 sets to make youself feel like you had a great workout. Once you conquer the psychology of weight training, then you will be able to listen to your body. Consequently, you will know when your body has reached its apex during your workout, and that is how you grow.

When you guys do cardio on an empty stomach - does empty mean not even a morning protein shake? I image 'empty' means just that, but I was just checking.

As soon as I wake up, my first steps are to the fridge for a protein shake. I'm also a big coffee drinker but I just figure protein (after 8 hrs of sleep/fasting) is the first priority. Coffee comes later with breakfast and vitamins.

So do you guys just postpone the protein til after the morning cardio?

Fasted cardio is a better more accurate term...yes nothing in your stomach except black coffee or water is ok, do your cardio and then have your protein shake.

Here is my little pre-workout routine.. Here are couple tips if anyone is interested??

Tren Suspension.Take orals sublingual with some creatine (cell volumizer), and drink lots of water. Taking orals siblingual will get in your system faster and the creatine along with lots of water will transport it even faster. Second, take a little ribose, which will excite the Mitochondria, which will generate more ATP, and maximize protein synthesis. Consequently, more muscle growth...

I love this thread. I'm reading every word and ready to learn a ton. Especially looking forward to the post holiday diet logs. Thanks Led and others for a real thread like this one!

Hey led when did u discover ur "sweet spot" in a training session. The point where u have a sufficient pump and muscle stimulation but haven't overstrained. Are there any ways for me dial in on my own sweet spot or is it all trial and error?

It took me a long time to know how to listen to my body, and YES, it was through "trial and error." I don't even plan things out really, it's all routine now. It almost seems like it's robotic..

In what ways do u find yourself changing up the strategy to stimulate growth when u hit a sticking point ? I'm finding myself at a plateau and haven't figured out the exact formula to push past this one. Any tips?

Sure. I don't know your diet or training routine but I can give you some suggestions. Tweak, manipulate, adjust, and change things. Ie. Up protein every meal, eat another meal every day, up carbs, lower carbs, change workout routine, up reps, lower sets, take another day off a week, take a week or two off from training.. Just start playin', manipulating, and adjusting things.. Listen to your body, you might need a little time away from the gym. The best gains I ever made were after an extended period of time off.

Did not workout today, because I felt a little sore. Instead I helped my mother babysit my niece and nephew. Good lord! I should went to the gym and did 2,000 sets. They wore and stressed me out to the max. I had to come home and eat some benzos just to chill out. Wow! God bless parents! I'm glad I'm not one...

Diet: gummy bears and kool aid.

Will be back at it hard tomorrow..

LMAO...welcome to my life, and many other dads lives, oh but add a teenage girl to the equation, although I'm sure you would be a great dad, except for allowing the gummy bears and kool aid...mine eats fruits, veggies, chicken & broccoli, protein shakes, and my homemade protein bars, limit her to crap!

Lol. The gummy bears were not my call, although they taste good. When my sisters dropped off their kids, they decided to drop off gummy bears with them. My mother was pissed! Hence, there was a battle over whether or not they could eat the gummy bears. Looks like the kids won the battle. Being a Marine and never losing a battle, I'm feeling some type of way.. LOl..

God bless you, bro. I don't know how you do it? What a trial!!

They are my world...eat, sleep, breathe, work my ass off, and love every second of it...do I get stressed & frustrated of course, but that is where the wife comes in and creates that balance...it is such a team effort, and it takes 24/7/365 work, but it is priceless! As a buddy of mine told me...the world was in black & white, but when you look into that newborn little girls eyes...full color bro! Wrapped instantly by 3 girls, and wouldn't change it for anything!

Fatherhood truly is amazing!!! I'm sure you will someday with the right woman ;).

What's tren suspension like? Similar to test suspension?

Similar that both compounds don't have an ester attached to them. Therefore, you are getting pure tren and test. Imo, tren suspension blows away test suspension in every aspect in relation to AAS. Test suspension makes one more susceptible to bloat opposed to tren with no bloat.. Tren my only friend..

Get some!!

Yeah, some dude from another board turned me on to Tren Suspension. I never knew they made Tren suspension until he directed my attention to it. The pumps are retarded!!

People tell me I'm utterly insane when I'm on Tren, I don't really notice.. I love being the ultimate badboy. I guess Tren enhances my insanity. Oh well! It is boring being good..

I am going to obliterate my delts today. Delts are my favorite to train..

Will post up workout today.

Yeah led awesome thread bro. I notice that throughout this thread, along with good information on training and compound use, I see that you are using the visualization technique. This is a form of training I've been learning a lot about from Arnold's encyclopedia of modern bodybuilding. Just utalizing the power of your mind to achieve your goals. And that's not only for bodybuilding. The principal can be taken into every aspect of your life. Do u consciously use this technique or is something you haven't noticed before?

You are well observant. First, my father was a "real" amateur boxer. I started boxing at the age of 5. It was entrenched in me that losing was unacceptable, hence, it worked. Second, I joined the Marines when I was 18, and if anyone knows anything about Marine Corps indoctrination is that they brainwash you into believing that you are invincible, and it works.

That mind set has stuck with me throughout the years, and yes, it helps me achieve my goals, and yes, it definitely works in every aspect of life.. I'm the eternal optimist, and I hate pessimists!

I mashed the f*ck out of delts today. By far my favorite body part to train.

Did cardio for 15 minutes prior to my workout to get the blood and oxygen flowing.

1). Seated military press. 3 sets. 1st set: 285 for 12, 2nd set 305 for 10, 3rd set 315 for 10.
2). Dumbbell press. 3 sets. stayed at 90 LBs for 10
3). Side lateral raises. 3 sets. weight unknown, 10 reps for each set.
4). Lying rear delt raises 3 sets. weight unknown, 10 reps for each set.

Did 12 sets and I was gone.. 35-40 minute workout. Took 1-2 minutes between sets. No overtraining.. Sticking to the basics for now..

Note* Hit all three heads of the delt. Front, side, and rear..

I'm motivated!!

As much as it really pains me, I am going to change up my routine to mirror yours, and do less sets and basically undertrain which is what it will feel like to me, but who knows my body has been telling me something recently and I have been drained a bit, actually took the past 2 days off the gym, so ready for tomorrow. Try something new!

It's not undertraining, it's called "linear progression," which is the best way to get big and cut. Gradually increase weight, reps, and sets, so your body can adjust correctly.

It's all good, bro. We are gonna turn this site out...

I been gone for a while and I noticed being back for 10 days that a lot vets are gone now. Not that join dates mean anything, but it appears a lot steroid board mythology is being peddled here. The biggest thing that I noticed is that people still believe there are certain drugs for cutting and certain drugs for bulking, that is by far the biggest AAS fallacy.

There are no such things as "cut" drugs or "bulk" drugs. One can diet on any drug, and one can bulk on any drug. Just some drugs "aromatize" more than others. Diet, training, and cardio dictate whether a person gets ripped or bulks up.

I told this story 1,000 times and I will tell it another 1,000 times if I can find "one" receptive heart who will understand. I met Dennis Newman right after he won the Nationals in 1994. He was the guest poser at the Mr. Ohio. He was nice enough to talk to my friends and I about steroid use. Newman asserted himself without hesitation. He said, "don't believe there are certain drugs for cutting and certain drugs for bulking, you can diet and bulk on any drug." After 20 years of taking Newman's advice through trial and error, I would have to say Newman was/is spot on..

I know people who get ripped on drols and test, and I mean shredded. I personally put on 20 pounds taking only winny tabs and mast one time.

I hope this helped someone??

I'm doing back today myself. Back is the only body part I do more than 12 sets..

1). deads
2). bent over rows
3). seated cable rows (close grip)
4). one arm cable rows or one arm dumbbell rows
5). Lat pull downs (wide grip).

Note* This is always subject to change

3 sets each.. stay in the 10-12 rep range..

That's what I'm doing today..

I cant say how true enough this is! I think its just a miss conception bc there are compounds the will hold more water retention so ppl think their fatter or cant cut

Glad your workout went well. I just got back from the gym. I had a hard time getting into a rhythm doing deads. I did 3 sets of 10 @ 225, but it was shaky.. However, the rest of my workout went well : I stayed in the 10-12 rep range for all my sets and got a nice pump..

What a drag it is training natural...

It is only going to get better for us bro ;). If it is any consolation...after doing 225 lb barbell bent over rows for 3x12, I only went up to 275-315 for dedz...lower back was on fire doing these back to back...no pun intended. Good days...ok days...kill it days, take them as they come.

Nice 'dead' numbers. If your back was on fire then "objective complete."

I'm not disappointed about where I am at considering a took a considerable amount of time off and I'm training natual for now. I'm focusing on getting my mechanics and form down correctly and trying to catch a rhythm. Once I get those things in order, and my body conditioned to the point where I think it's time to hit the sauce, then turn out the lights, the party's over.

I'll take tomorrow off, then murder my wheels Sunday...

Question on the days that the motivation is fleeting in the weight room, numbers are down, and the pump just doesn't seem to come like other days.... Do u guys push through and deviate from the workout plan in order to achieve the massive pump or lay back and are satisfied with the fact that the exercises you set out to do are accomplished. I guess what I'm getting at is , is it worth the risk of overtraining at the expense of getting the pump?

In the past I would just add more sets which as I learned was counter productive...sometimes when I am most run down or tired I have my best workouts...other days I just take it for what its worth and just do the best I can for that day. Hope that makes sense.

Stick to your plan

If you go in thinking you are gonna set a PR but then you don't, the worst thing you can do is compensate by trashing your muscles with too many sets

I max out maybe once every two months to assess strength, other than that I stick to a slowly progressing plan that limits the chances of overtraining but still has a solid group of working sets

I know bro, but you have to tell yourself that it may not feel like you got the best workout, but as long as you completed the lifts you planned to do, you got work done

As a Marine, I have to turn that killer mentality down a notch, because on the days i'm just not feeling it, I would love nothing more than to just go apeshit and deadlift the front counter in the gym

Best thing to do is have a good plan beforehand, stick to it, and listen to your body

unfortunately I learn the hard way! Haha years of overtraining and wondering why i'm a hardgainer....all that time wasted!

Oh fuck I hear you there...still learning the hard way, that is how some of us learn, but not this time around ;).

No way my friend! I really do think with the knowledge and support I have now, this upcoming year is going to be nuts for me in terms of gains!

I always use the last workout as a reference point. If i increase reps or increase weights with same reps thats the goal, one or the other. Even a 1 rep increase is good. Swap out exercises and/or run the workout in a different order to keep things fresh and never let the body get comfortable.

It's a biological/scientific certainty. My one friend eats dball like they are skittles and shoots test like a heroin addict shoots heroin and is fuckin' diced beyond belief. I'm not talking having abs @ 160 lb, I'm talking 5'10 235 shredded to the bone.

Hey ledhead,

I'm enjoying this thread. It is very motivating, even from a women's perspective. It would be good to skim before heading to the gym, just for motivation. I like reading phrases like, "turn out the lights, the party is over" lol and enjoy reading your routine. :) I know you got this and I know you'll do great. Good luck with your goals, I wish you all the good things in life.

that's how I run a 5X5 for strength. Every time you work a muscle group, increase it by 5 lbs on your last working set. Before you know it you're 6 months in and your bench is up by 35 pounds naturally

Why thank you, nice lady. Remember, you are the one who resurrected this monster from the dead. Lol. I had no intentions on ever competing again until you told me that you thought I had the right stuff. The rest will be history when I bring it on home, which I will have to give you partial credit for..

I'm glad you are enjoying the thread. Thank you for the wishes and I wish the same to you!

Lol. I'm not exactly anxious to spend $200 a week on food for the next 8 months, brotha.. Orange Roughy is quite expensive here in PA.. I'm assuming seafood is rather cheap out there in God's Country??

Ah yes, God's Country it is...and yes fresh fish, right here at the harbor...still can be spendy, but it is fresh. There are people who drive from Texas with huge ice chests and dry ice to get fish from here...it is crazy! I am ready to change up to some more fish as I just ate 2 cups Coastal Kale salad, 2 cups fresh steamed broccoli and zucchini, and about 6-8 oz Tri Tip...but love fish too, had Salmon for lunch...Orange Roughy is good, Tilapia is great, Sole, Ahi Tuna, Halibut...all good here ;).

Best thing to do is have a good plan beforehand, stick to it, and listen to your body

lmao!!! i love me some BB

after your done dl the front counter Ill throw dee gernade

It definitely is, I love CA. I was stationed at Camp Pendleton for 4 years. I did see a lot of CA, but not as much as I would have like to ; that's because my division was always abroad kicking someone's ass..

I eat a lot of roughy and flounder. I like the taste and it is easy to digest. Express mail me some roughy :)

Not training today.. I will utterly annihilate wheels tomorrow. Will post up routine, which I already know what I'm going to do..

I got some more pictures locked and loaded. Just waiting for the opportune time to post up :)

Let's ride!!

Costco has pretty good frozen salmon and tilapia vacuum sealed individually in bags or 10 or something. tastes good too if cooked right

Just as long as you don't get the farmed crap...fish aren't supposed to eat corn. Wild Sockeye salmon is the best.

We're on the coast so wild caught fish is abundant and not too expensive. When I shop, I get two carts and people always give me a weird look when i'm standing in line with a full cart of eggs, chicken, and fish, and a full cart of veggies, fruit, water and green tea

Costco runs for us are the same, one cart for foods, the other for other bulk crap...can never get out of that damn place for under $400-500...but I will not get fish from there as it is 90% farmed...Coleman organic chicken, ground turkey, cage free eggs, Wild Planet tuna, and Quinua is the base of my diet except for cheat days.

I would like to hear Leds take on IF...I have been on it my entire cycle, and still managed to put on 20+ lbs...but would like to hear some discussion and who is currently on IF and if it is a good thing for a cycle.

I honestly hated it until I saw the results..

After switching to IF I started burning off more fat but still added strength and muscle. I went from 195 to 205 but looked twice as big because of how dense but still lean I got

I actually have been loving the effects it has on me as well, plus not being a slave to the meals all day long, a bit more manageable in a 8 hour window...but still find it hard at times to get all the calories in for the day in 8 hours, and find myself eating every 2-3 hours during that time...but just like you said, dropped bodyfat, put on lean muscle, the only thing that took a while getting used to was training fasted, which for some here I'm sure is like voodoo...and for me I don't eat after I train for 6 hours or so...which is why I would like to have Leds take on it being at his calibur and if he has ever tried it.

Hmmm. The way I see things is that if someone finds something that works for them then good for them. I don't really know much about IF. The people in my circle say it is unproductive for advanced bodybuilders, because they swear one has to be in a constant "anabolic state" to put on quality muscle. Like I said, I don't know how IF really works. I never heard of any pro bodybuilders who do IF..

Cutler swears that being in a constant anabolic state is what won him his first Mr. O. He would eat every two hours, and wake himself up every two hours at night to drink a shake. He said, that is what gave hime the edge to win the Olympia. Now, I don't know if Cutler was telling the truth and just paying lip service to someone for some reason. But I read him saying that numerous times like he was swearing on a stack of bibles..

Now, I won't knock it until I try it, which will probably be never. I been eating every 2 1/2 hrs 7 times a day for years, and it works for me.. If it is not broke then don't fix it..

They just had this debate over OLM not to long ago and I avoided the debate because I never tried IF, and I'm all for finding out what works for you. I been preaching that philosophy all through this thread, hence, if IF works for you that's great. Nevertheless, I know what works for me, and I will never deviate from that path...

I completely agree with what you stated Led, as that is how I have done it up until I jumped on IF earlier this year to drop down to 9.4% prior to starting this cycle...but have been debating on whether maybe switching back and forth from traditional to IF, being on IF when leaning out...don't mind me just thinking out loud, but it pains me to think shit have I been selling myself short by being on IF during cycle? Now my mind wanders...

Well, look at it this way, you have the balls to try something new. I don't mind you thinking out loud :) Turn me on to some literature on If, so I can read it and give you my take on it.. I'm a little curious to how it works..

Okay.. Back to why I made this thread. Bump for some heavy hitters to post up pictures. I need motivated...

After switching to IF I started burning off more fat but still added strength and muscle. I went from 195 to 205 but looked twice as big because of how dense but still lean I got

I thought of trying IF for when I was traveling for work makes it really hard to eat perfect so I thought limiting the feeding window would help. At home I just couldn't get into it took so long training my body to eat small meals every few hours hard to change it back.

Totally, and if it works, why change it? I changed because I wanted to stimulate new growth in my body.

I've always been a typical hard gaining ecto. Every bit of weight I have is hard earned, but I hit a plateau around the 175 mark and couldn't really break the strength barrier and put on more size. So I made a change in diet and routine.

I went from walking around the gym for 2 hours lifting in the 4-8 rep range heavy as I could and eating all day long to doing an intense hour session and pushing the 20+ rep range, and eating in a 9 hour window. It worked.

Not saying it would work for everyone, as Led said, this sport is about figuring out what works specifically for you.

Just in the last two years i've gone from 175 at 13% to 205 at <10% and am still transforming my body

That's dam impressive seems like it work well on hard gainers. I do agree it's a matter of figuring out your own body and what works for you there is no one single road to Rome. I do love that even after being at this most of my adult life I can learn something new a tip or trick from someone a little tweak in technique that makes a massive difference in results.

A bit of progress after switching to higher reps, IF diet, and finding EliteFitness (and juice)

Camo pic is a few months after bootcamp, where you just run alot and can't lift. 175lbs. The stage pic was at 186, the beach pic at about 195 but up a little in bf% and the latest pic in the gym is after switching to high reps, IF diet, and running a couple beast and katana cycles. 205 and 9% currently.

Don't let anyone tell you high reps don't pack on mass

My man! Evan, I was not trying to get anyone to motivate me, it was just a potshot to see if anyone would post pictures. Other than MA, there is not one soul on this site who could remotely motivate me. I motivate myself because there is no better motivator, and you should feel the same way considering you are our future Mr. O :)

Here is my attitude:

People train hard but I train harder, people eat right but I eat smarter. People know how to cycle roids but I cycle better. People are not sure they can win but I'm sure I can win..

Stick with me and rock and roll. It's either that or go into chat and watch Taylor Swift videos. I'm sure that will motivate you...

I tried your philosophy with the coffee thing, I need a lot of practice. Nevertheless, post up, I'm a firm believer in equality. No sexist here!!

Thats a good outlook.. I just need to eat right and ill be down the right road. Its hard to have a good diet going through high school and not having a job haha

Practice at being a nice friendly human?

I will post up some pics down the road right now I got nothing to brag about but I am preparing to compete again next year. It's an actual goal I have set in my mind. I really want to try physique. I was to big for figure and to small for bodybuilding so I am hoping I am just right for physique. If not at least I will have my abs back.

Bigbassturd your progress is outstanding I am positive you will get those wheels to grow.

Thanks girl, it's all about individual results. That's why I love this sport. What works for you doesn't always for for other people, that's why you see guys in their 30s and 40s in way better.shape than guys my age, it's because they've figured out by now what works for them.

I can tell by browsing through the womens forum how much knowledge you have about fitness, and I have no doubt you'll reach your goals

This is a great thread! Can't wait to see that leg workout led. Do you separate quads/hams on different days or all at once?

I'm glad you are enjoying the thread. Good catch, I did legs yesterday and forgot to log it. Because all these IF junkies cluttered my thread with their nonsense :)

I do quads and hams together.

Quads:

Squats:

3 sets between 10-15 reps. Weight 225-275. Kept my feet/legs parallel with my delts because it is easier for me to push my knees out (to avoid injury).

Leg press:

3 sets between 10-15 reps. Used a little wider foot stance, so I could concentrate on my upper thighs/hips.

Note* When squatting and doing leg presses if you don't control the weight and feel it on the way coming down you are wasting your time.

Hack Squats:

3 sets between 10-15 reps. I positioned my feet together to work on the sweep. I don't have bad knees, so I can get away with this technique, and it works!

Leg extensions:

3 sets between 10-15 reps. Used light weight to concentrate on my teardrops.

Note* If you do leg ext correctly with the right form and weight you will not damage your knees. I love this isolation movement.. It works wonders if you do them correctly and don't try nothing heroic.

Hamstrings:

4 sets of Romanian Deadlifts/ Stiff leg, between 10-15 reps. Did not really pay attention to the weight. I worried about form and getting a nice pump.

4 sets of machine Hamstring work. Lying curls.10-15 reps.. Controlled the weight and kept concentrating on isolating the ham by not bringing it all the way down..Brought it down enough just to barely release the tension off the muscle then brought it up again.. Kind like a rhythmic motion with constant tension..

Note* I only did 8 sets for hams because you work them doing quads and back.. No need to do more than that..

12 sets for quads and 8 for hams and I was out in 45 minutes pumped like a mofo, that's because I love to double time!

I am in the midst of actually contemplating if I should use my upcoming cycle of test E at 500mg a week to get shredded or try to put on mass. Spring break is in march so I want to look my absolute best then.

With the advice Newman gave you, I am going to try the same principal with the test and try to get shredded and add muscle as well. With the right diet I think it's possible. You agree?
