Are you a Narcissist?

Im just curious if there is anyone here who has more than normal narcissistic tendancies? and how were you made aware of that fact?

lately ive wondered if I am more narcissistic than most and wouldnt mind hearing some tips from others here with the same affliction.

do you lack empathy or are you just selfish?

Basically if you worry about being a narc it's pretty good sign you're not a true narcissist. What traits do you have that make you think you might be a narcissist?
 
its weird because I genuinely do give a shit,Im a part time firefighter and I am a support worker for disabled people,but sometime I wonder if I do it for praise as opposed to being a good person.

in the past ive chased women and used this as fuel for what I feel is my narcissism.

I think alot of this what I call narcissistic behaviour started after my wifes miscarriage a few years ago and I just shut down and something in me changed.

its because I acknowledge this that im confused as I understand true narcissists dont think they are
 
I also acknowledge that ive had states of mania that I thought were anxiety, was on anti anx meds,but got back in the gym and now I dont need them, to me that seems that Im just filling the void with something else thats self fulfilling, hmmmmm

How often do you lie? See, it would be almost impossible to know if you were telling the truth without getting to know you because if you were a pathological liar and a narcissist then you'd never be able to realize this about yourself unless you had a major major life event or psychotic break of some sort.

Do you use other people as mirrors to prop up grandiose fantasies about yourself? Can you admit when you're wrong? Do you use people as a means to an end, or as objects?

Being closed off and shut down does not make you a narcissist but I would reconsider that path. It does not lead to a good place; it only has one destination.

lying isnt part of my game,I have omitted things like going to the strippers and Ill just say I went out with my friends, but other than that Im straight forward with people,often brutally honest.

and yes I can admit when I am wrong or screw up.

perhaps im not narcissistic then,just a selfish prick who wants it all.

I'm just selfish
But I've made it a point to explain this to all the new women in my life before they start a relationship with me.
I tell them very plainly , me and what I do comes before you ALWAYS!

I do this because of my lifestyle that revolves around diet, weight training and cardio. Bitches Think it's cool shit at first and I am sure it's part of what attracts them to me to begin with, UNTIL...
God forbid it interferes with something that they want. Like I won't go out to dinner with them 3 nights a week. I will not miss a workout to go to her friends birthday party with her and hang out with a bunch of people I don't know.
Or if I go to a cookout or dinner at her family's house I will embarrass her by showing up with a cooler full of my own food and refuse to eat anything that is served.
So after some trial n error I figured out the best way to explain it to them is just tell them" I am selfish"" I come first" because that is what they're gonna come up with in the end anyway.

Hey T...yes they live a lie and are deeply pathological about it.

And Nan, that was a pretty messed up comment. Many people without issues end up entwined with narcs. Unless you've ever been with one of know one, you would understand.
Would you assume a patient of yours who was with a narc automatically has their own personality disorder?

I NEVER said that people who have been with narcs are histrionics I said the board's histrionics were about to come out and talk about narcs, I never correlated them.
 
To be totally honest nan, I thought you were saying anyone that has been with a narc is histrionic too. I only know two people on here who complain about narcs; blue and I. I took that as you saying I was histrionic which is why I asked what you meant by that. I wasn't trying to trick you into anything, just trying to figure out what you meant. I certainly am not histrionic (though I could be other things... lol) or my pics would be all over this forum, but if I come across that way, I'd like to know.

LOL @ you thinking about it, no I wouldnt consider you either or between narc and histrionic :) not based on what I've read from you.

Histrionic & narc is a relationship that doesnt happen very often since they both strive for attention and they rarely work, however every now and then they meet up and they are horrible to watch together

I never knew what narc was until I was in couples therapy and my therapist told me I was with one!
I was worried at the time I was one, but wasn't.
Never dx with anything but PTSD. Which sort of messes with your state of being.
I'm working on it. Now hand me a little debbie

Well, it wasn't clear to me. Who are the board histrionics and why would they suddenly always come out and complain about narcs when they rarely date IRL? As far as I'm concerned I do it more than blue. Lol. It was confusing to me, but nan cleared it up. Whatever. Lol.

I don't think that makes me paranoid. When I'm confused with something someone says, I ask for clarification. That way, if they have a problem with me it's a good opportunity for them to let me know directly. I think that's the best thing to do in any situation. You will never shut me up, NEVER! :D

That's not entirely true. Sam Vanknin is a narcissist and a psychopath and he acknowledges it. Some of them can, most of them can't. Depends on if your narcissism is malignant I suppose. Some narcissism is healthy.
