man ive known/heard bout so many meth heads that think they got little bugs crawlin all over their skin, one dude used to keep a can of air duster at all times to blast em with that air when he saw em... pretty tight

Alcohol is the ugliest abused drug there is. I would take a meth head/heroin junkie/opiate abuser over a pt going into DT's any day in the ER. It's always the drunks that commit or are involved in the violent crimes. New years eve night we had to intubate 4 people simply for being too drunk and not being able to breath on their own. We also received three alcohol related stabbings and a GSW. I'm not for prohibition but there needs to be much tighter restrictions on alcohol sales.

Yeah I noticed that too. I figured they come in so malnourished that they need to chow, and food kind of substitutes for whatever they are craving. Smokers who quit get fat too. Probably they assume the user is less likely to succeed if you try to get them off drugs and try to control eating and exercise all at the same time.
But I agree if you cut someone loose from rehab with a focus on health and exercise, you would think that would help them stay clean.
