Any of you fools reside in Seattle?

Rachel...lol

If you've been around when I happen to post, you're pretty aware I've been on a quest to spread my wings... well it's happening, in Seattle. Taking a Marketing Manager position with a software company on the Eastside... will be there this weekend hashing out the details and relocating soon.

I have never been to Seattle - aside from the "rain", those of you that have been - did/do you love it there?

I'll be in Bellevue which is ranked 4th best place to live or something like that

Pudds is from Seattle? Lucky me!

Just remember: when you bow, make sure your forehead touches the ground. Also, NEVER turn your back on him; walk away from him backwards. Keep your eyes to the ground in reverence -- never make direct eye contact. And never talk unless he asks you a direct question, in which case always preface your response with, "My Lord,"

HTH

:cow:

you making moar bank?

Yes sir. More excited about the "opportunity" though. I'm going to get the chance to learn from some amazing people and work outside of the bank/credit union/credit union support industry - and this is software that I already know.

super pumped

oh and stock options

I just got back from Seattle and have been there many times, its a great city. I wish the weather was warmer with less rain, but since I love coffee and reading books that makes up for it.

Congrats on the new position, sounds awesome!

Good luck, Rach! I'm glad that you're alive from Las Vegas. How did it all come about since Tuesday?

I've been a user of their software and I told them I was looking and now they're creating a job for me because I'm one of their "power users" and they love me :)

Sounds like you lucked out. Maybe you should travel further for your next job. I've been doing stints out west for a bit and now thinking of moving to Europe or Hong Kong for a bit to work.

will they try to persuade you to stay?

It's not the style of my company. My boss will be a really tough spot as our Senior Sales Rep retired last week and that only leaves him with 2 Reps (one is green and was trained by the retired) and then without me... he's in trouble. Since I've been there in three and a half years we've gone from 120 employees to 180; so it will be interesting. Maybe I'll get the "if it doesn't work out" and I like to think I make him look really good. It will be a blow, but they won't fight. I'm sure they can tell it's not about money it's about the place I'm at in my life and needing something different.

Are you a Seahawks fan? Matt Leinart will be playing for Pete Carroll this season. that could be interesting.

other than that, the weather in Seattle sucks.

good luck :)

wtf? Am I illiterate or did the Vag question get edited out? This place is turning into the AAS board.

after 20+ years in the area, I left. Couldn't take the weather anymore. 10 months a year of gloom, rain and cold finally got to me. Hope you do well up there though. :) Good luck!

And puds won't even meat up with you. For shame!

I know. I can't even get that ngr to call me back when I'm in the same city as him.

On the plane home now... Really liked the area. They did confirm that I'm in at least but still not sure where I stand $$ wise.

Maybe not so fun if your a programmer :nerd:

Exactly. This is online(SaaS) project management software and the position is geared towards retention of customers who did the free trial and didn't convert or those that were users and canceled their plan. I have loved the software for about a year - I am a "customer" so the position fits me well.

trivial detail

I talked them up another 8K on the base from their offer - so I'm good to go. I'll be out there by September 5th.

That sounds like a horrible sales position; I have to sell to people that didn't like it enough to upgrade or didn't like it enough to keep it.....this is not "retention." You're being hired to re-sell a turd....

FYI, I haven't been a "programmer" since 2001-2002.

It's not a sales position - it's not based on commission. This is a 48% increase in what I have been making - when just considering the base pay. I'll work with the larger companies for implementation and training, I'll be doing training videos, recorded sales demos, working with people at finding different ways to use the tool, etc. I've been a user of this software for a long time - they first found me when I wrote a review about their software on my website last year.... I've been passionate about spreading the word about it; It's definitely a different kind of situation the way it all played out.

do you like public speaking?

is there some "incentive" pay (above the base salary)?

Awaiting a Glad style thread about how they pay her all cash "in a few weeks" and reassure her they are growing by 100,000 new sales reps.

Wow - Puddles actually has a shot at getting laid in 2011.

Who had 2011 in the "next Time Puddmonkey Gets Laid Pool"?

If your job is convincing someone to purchase a product or service then you're in sales. That being said, if you love the product then you have a sales advantage because you will be perceived as genuine. Don't defend your decision to me...this may be a great opportunity...I'm just giving my .02.

Rachel, you'll do great at it. You might really like Seattle too. You can always plan vacations in the winter and go someplace warm and sunny for a nice little break.

Wait, do you assume people just walk up to my door and offer me a contract? Sales is very much a part of what I do...If I don't make sales I don't eat..I'm 100% commission.

Yep -
It's the housing - Bellevue is uber $$$. I'm going to end up in a tiny studio probably.

Factoria, Bothell, Redmond...

And I know you like living in the city, but look around. I suggest getting in touch with a Realtor. :)

If work is on the east side though, I would live on the east side. You don't want to commute across those bridges. Oh, traffic there sucks too.

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe Kirkland or Factoria - found a relo specialist to help me yesterday, I'm about to be in shutdown mode with all of this... so far I have a 1 way ticket, literally and that's all I've figured out. 8/31 is the day

Lived for a few years in Seattle. Pretty legit place. Superior to Michigan.

FYI Ive never really been to Michigan.

One of my buddies is from Traverse City and the dude fuckin goes back there like every other day. Dont know why he doesnt just move back. He tends to only hang out with people from there too.

Its odd.

It's official - I have an apartment in Bellevue one block from my office. Now I'm excited :)

There are a couple of Golds that have both classes I teach and have already contacted and will be auditioning for. There's also a pretty nice fitness center on the top floor of my building than overlooks the mountains. I'm not sure if I can justify paying for a gym membership - haven't paid for one in five years or so.

So how do you like it?

Well... it's been a bit lackluster, but it's starting to turn around.

I'm in Bellevue, which is nice and comfortable to me - it kind of feels like a newer Grand Rapids with more buildings. But it is not cheap. My 539 square ft studio apartment is $1,300 a month (not including utilities), and it is not overly fancy - the building is, but the apartment is kind of... eh. Which is fine. I'm not much for entertaining people in my home anyway, and it's a block from my office - which is obviously a huge plus.

I spent the first 3 weeks (I'm just starting my 5th week) without furniture or my car and broke.... going nearly 2 months without a paycheck. It was just me, my cat my laptop a small suitcase of clothing and a cheap pullout thing from Ikea to sleep on. The little bit of furniture I had moved by the moving company (my $2,000 - 3 month old mattress was the main reason I moved anything over at all) and my car finally made it - and I went home this weekend and flew back with my dog last night, so hopefully I'll start to settle in.

I'm still broke after paying my absurd rent, 2 car payments to get caught up, and $1,000 worth of plane tickets and transporting the dog and a rental car from Grand Rapids to Indianapolis... they say that taking a chance and doing something like this helps you grow as a person - and so far I have learned 1) things are things, that's it 2) corresponding directly to number 1 - I need to manage my money more appropriately (savings!). It's silly, I have an undergraduate degree in Finance and an MBA and I can give anybody all the advice in the world, but I apparently needed a reality check of my own.

After I made the choice to move, Nate decided to tell me how much he cares and loves me... and that has thrown a very difficult variable into this. It's been nearly a year since I met him. We "broke up" in February, started talking consistently and visiting each other in May - but he never really told me how he felt so I assumed it was casual in his mind... so now I'm 2,000 miles away from him instead of 280. I can't deny that if I wasn't committed to him I would probably be having more fun because I'd put myself in a situation to meet somebody new - go on a date and maybe find somebody to show me around, but I'm not going to do that.

So - I'm a bit lonely. AND my motivation for the gym is practically non-existent. I feel like a total fattie. I hate the fitness center on the 15th floor, it's not my gym. I also can't justify paying for a gym membership - I haven't paid for one in 5+ years (nor can I really afford it at the moment. And I went from teaching 6 classes a week to zero, so I miss some of my class people - especially my morning group that was with me forever. At least I have my dog now though, right?

I have no television, but I do have the 24" monitor from my desktop, AppleTv and Netflix - but I'm not really a television person anyway. As you can tell by my absence I haven't been in much of a mood for communication either, I tend to shutdown....

Well, that was a bit cathartic. I know things will get better now that I have my bed, dog, clothes, car....

I'm going to try and find some random coed sports team to join - something silly like flag football.

So - that's me in a nutshell. Quite different from 6 months ago.

Im sure there is a plethora of horny cyberdudes dying to hookup with the new chick in town

Hi Rachel!!!!!!!!!!! cindylou and I were just talking about you earlier today, and here you are! Good to hear from you and sorry things have been lackluster in your new town and difficult with the relationship. So what's he going to do about it? IMO it's kind of shitty you were just getting ready to take a different direction in your life and part of that whole experience is being put on hold.

Have you made any friends at work or in your building? Are you hanging out with anyone? It's great you have your dog there now. That will help with the loneliness. But you really need to make some friends honey. A good lookin, smart, fun girl like you shouldn't have any problem making a bunch of friends. Does your old gym have any reciprocal agreements with any of the gyms out there maybe? If so maybe you can work something out.

You are dumb to just shutdown like that. I like your posts on here and think you should post more. Elite is a way to escape the World and experience it another way. Facebook too. Probably should give it time there, but if it sucks that bad and you can't deal with it than leave.

You should right a book or something.

I apologize for not knowing the history of the thread
that's part of the bargain

At this point - nothing. He did come out here for my birthday. Though he complained a good deal about spending money (I still hadn't received a paycheck). Oh yeah - his house will be paid off next month, so it's not like he doesn't have the $$, though I suppose that's why he's flush - he's frugal.

Agreed

My team is pretty small - and it's a software company. I was only the third woman hired into the company. Not hanging out with anybody. yes, dog is a big help - he got me up at 5:45, apparently he didn't read the memo about time zone changes. It's good though - I have laundry going, he and I walked for about half an hour, I'm going to paint my nails and I still don't have to leave to get to work for more than an hour.

No reciprocity agreements between my gym and any others outside of Michigan.... I think I'm going to train for a marathon, that will give me some purpose. I haven't been a serious runner since I fractured my hip five years ago when I was training for a race.

The fuck??? He came to see you and he complained about spending the money to come (when you still hadn't gotten paid)????? Tell him not to bother coming back! Fuck that guy. That's my opinion. :) You don't need that. That's just more stress. Make a clean break Rachel. You don't have time for that bullshit.

If you don't do it now you'll most likely have many more months of frustration and wasted time and money, only to break up again after all that and be feeling even more lonely at your new home than you do now. Drop the dead weight. It's just bringing you down.

Sounds like you know what to do...

Start a happy hour outing every Thursday night. A buddy of mine did this when he moved to a new town and it grew like crazy. He would get emails of people he met and put them on a list. He planned outings weeks in advance and kept updating the list (as it grew of course). It wasn't always meeting at a bar either, sometimes it would be going to the opening of a new art exhibit or a movie showing outside at a park.

Didn't you run a race not too long ago? Year or two maybe? I think that would be great for you. You need good things to do to stay busy.
