golden gate bridge suicides

nimbus

New member
i had no idea they were so prevalent.

just watched a super depressing movie made by some dude who filmed the golden gate bridge for a whole year and captured 23 suicides. apparently someone jumps about every two weeks, and now a giant net is gonna be built under the bridge as a deterrent.

Wow, really... We have way more bridges here in NY, but I don't hear much about that suicides off any of them. I just went over the Golden Gate bridge for the first time about a week ago. Not sure what the big deal about it is exactly. Looks like the Throgs Neck bridge just longer and a different color.

well part of it is that it passes through a region with what i'd say has about 1000x the natural beauty of anywhere near NYC

The GGB itself is also absolutely gorgeous and a major architectural feat. The throg's neck bridge honestly looks like an ugly little piece of shit by comparison. I'm glad you got a chance to see it up close; hopefully it wasn't too foggy and you got a good view.

mustve had heavy fog from legal pot, ex, coke, gettin kicked out the rave

good job foggit ur serotonin was so fogged up u couldn't even enjoy the golden gate bridge

foggot

Gotta get the spelling right -- or has pot fogged-up your brain?

Obviously the high number of foggots in SF suffer from pot induced depression, causing them to jump

Can you imagine how embarrassing it'd be to be stuck in a net beneath the golden gate bridge? Probably embarrassing enough to want to find another bridge.

It always amazed me that people chose to kill themselves by jumping off a bridge into water, I wonder if you die right away or drown under the current.

Ya, I totally agree the view is pretty cool when I parked on the other end of it. San Francisco in general is really beautiful!

I saw a commercial for marijuana on TV, lol. Never thought I'd see that.

i think they said most die on impact, but a small percentage dies of hypothermia or drowns

Woah, chiiiiill buddy lol I was just messing with you.

I agree that it's a selfish act though.

no thanks, im not a FUCKIN retard that thinks they have to kill themselves. selfish bitches need to die, theres plenty of help available theres no reason they should ever jump off a bridge unless they were me and knew they would survive the impact
but if you knew you wouldnt die (such as yourself) then why not do it? I'll give you 5 pounds of silver nickels if you jump with a camera and rap on your way down.

why are you so cheap? silver nickels have 35% silver if theyre from 1942-1945, at least give me some walking liberty half dollars or somethin

I'd put a bullseye out in the water and print on the top "IF YOU HIT THIS, YOUR SURVIVING FAMILY GETS $50,000" on the bottom..."JUST KIDDING! DON'T JUMP. You have soooo much to live for....Right ? ".

fucking california

and some survive the jump

two teens have survived the jump here over the last month...one had major internal injuries the other I think walked away...fucking nuts. I have seen someone jump off the bay bridge...blocked traffic up fire response was trying to keep him from doing it but over he went...=/ kind of weird to see.

one of the kids who survived looks pretty jacked, but maybe it's the turtle neck creating illusions

i want to witness a suicide

In Tampa we put phones up and down the Sunshine Skyway Bridge that lead directly to a suicide hotline. Seems like somebody on the side of a bridge has already made up their mind though. I don't see how you talk someone out of it via phone call if they're already to such a point that they're on the side of a bridge, but um whatever.

fuck putting up a net. if people wanna kill themselves, let them. we have too many people as it is.

This

It's amazing at the number of suicide attempts we get in the ICU weekly. My favorite was a pt of mine had chugged an entire gallon of lighter fluid. He didn't die but fried his kidneys with an anoxic brain injury. So now he's living off of tax dollars in a nursing home receiving dialysis treatments every other day and can't even feed himself. Oh and this was his 5th attempt in the end costing us tax payees millions upon millions of dollars. And we get on average 3-4 of these types of pts A WEEK! Leeches

I would love to write a book about the proper ways of killing yourself.

I hear the helium mask works pretty well, is cheap, and they sell kits online.

police talk down 70 potential jumpers a year. granted that is much different than a phone call. but i think most people arent ready to actually go through with it. big diff between going to the edge of teh bridge, and taking teh plunge

more people commit suicide at the golden gate bridge than at any other site in the world, followed by aokigahara, the suicide forest in japan. i watched a documentary on the forest not too long ago, the camera crew tagged along with a dude who is in charge of finding bodies and/or people who wander around out there. while they were there they found some remains, a used noose, a voodoo doll with messages nailed into some trees and a dude who was contemplating suicide who later has to be taken out of the woods by emt/rescue. it was sorta trippy.

The solution here is clear: We need more bridge control. You should have to register and get a background check before you can use one.

When I was in college people wood leap off of this on average of one/semester

if what you're really saying is that there should be more bridges.. yeah i totally agree.

You are clearly a shill for the National Bridge Association.

Next you're probably going to tell me that: "Bridges don't kill people, people kill people."

I beg to differ.
