modafinil & adrafinil

Anyone used either of these for alertness aids? modafinil is the newer, expensive drug. Adrafinil is the older, cheaper drug which is basically the same thing.


What all drugs are good for getting to sleep, and what all drugs are good for staying awake.

i know this isnt a drug, but melatonin works great for me when i cant sleep.

as for staying awake, one of my friends had an rx for provigil (or something similar sounding), which they give to people diagnosed with narcolepsy. he said it was alright.

Provigil is the tradename for modafinil. Both adrafinil and modafinil are centrally acting alpha-1 agonists, which have a stimulatory effect very much like the common stimulants. Some have claimed that they don't produce the compensatory sleep debt that is inccured with many dopaminergic/noradrenergic agents like amphetamines, cocaine, etc.

Adrafinil is available through many overseas pharmacies for relatively cheap, whereas modafinil is outrageous.

Note: there is the claim of possible hepatotoxicity with both agents.

i do know it gave him bad headaches when he first started.
