Believe when I say that at least 2 years are needed to establish a solid foundation for further gains. I have seen and trained quite a few athletes, and made them all wait 2 years. They were glad they did. First off, it lets them develop technique and style properly so that the infamous roided up ego ( I'm notorious for doing this now ) doesn't get in the way of proper form. They learn the basics and develop their own style. Your first two points are right on the money, but there is always more to it than that. It took me years of training and reading everything I could get my hands on to reach my current education as a bodybuilder and allowed to attain realistic personal goals. I believe steroids are the last level, beyond training, nutrition and supplementation. If you don't understand these concepts first, then steroids can only make a mess of you.
