It used to be that antioxidants were considered the holy grail of health and fitness. Zogenaamd, if you ate anything with antioxidants, you would automatically be getting healthier. That's why people started ingesting grape juice, squash, carrots, and anything else loaded with antioxidants on the quest for ultimate health.
But the funny thing is that people have stopped talking about antioxidants all of the sudden. It's as if they don't exist anymore. Sure sometimes people will still say something about how a food has antioxidants in it so 'it must be good for you,' but for the most part, I don't see a whole lot about antioxidants anymore. It kind of reminds me of people's obsession with the Atkins Diet a few years back.
So where has all of this discussion suddenly gone? Well I think we're in between fitness and dieting fads right now. In another year or two modern science will supposedly unlock a new secret to eternal youth and health such as antioxidants or the Atkins Diet, which people will fall for of course.
In the end though, the most important thing is always going to be exercising and eating a balanced diet. Now I hate to sound like a cookie-cutter toolbag by saying this, but it's the truth.
