Over the last three decades we've seen a large move from definition winning bodybuilding competitions to size winning bodybuilding contents. Obviously you still need to be cut to win, but the judges are definitely looking at size before they consider definition. Nowhere is this more apparent than at the Mr. Olympia where Jay Cutler - one of the largest bodybuilders ever to grace the stage - won the Mr. Olympia title yet again.
Now it's not like the massive Cutler winning has come out of nowhere since numerous other huge bodybuilders have won before Jay. Contudo, it just goes to show that more emphasis is put on size by the judges than ever before.
E você sabe o que? I happen to agree with the large amount of emphasis put on size over definition. Afinal, these are not some amateurs on stage that are competing in a local hillbilly bodybuilding contest. This is the Mr. Olympia where the best of the best come to compete. And this goes for all IFBB competitions since the professionals should be held to more rigorous standards.
Infelizmente, this means a lot of athletes have to go around heavier and looking out-of-shape while bulking, but I think pros should look as good as possible for that one day on stage. I think the same should apply to all athletes too, though the government doesn't share my view as they've banned steroids. But what can you do?
