Every now and then I come across a steroid-related article that's so ridiculous...I just have to tell somebody. In dit geval, I'd like to tell anybody that reads this blog. The article in question recently came from the Washington Post, which I thought was supposed to be an award-winning paper.
The article was written about a subject that I've covered several times over the years in Afghanistan bodybuilding. Verder te gaan, it was about how Mr. Afghanistan Arif Sakhi died from what else but a breakdown of his organs from steroid use. Now I'm not saying that it's impossible to die from overdosing on steroids - just like with any other drug - but I highly doubt that Mr. Afghanistan was so unknowledgeable about juicing that he used roids to the point of organ failure at the age of 26.
Verder, there was no evidence presented in the article (seen here) that suggested Sakhi did indeed die from steroid use. This was just another major news publication taking a jab at steroids by any means necessary......and just when I thought this stuff was all over with.
The guy who wrote this article, Hamid Shalizi, was all over the place too as he also pointed to illegal supplements as the cause of death. He also wrote about how the illegal supplements were believed to be a result of foreign influence.
Convinced that the death came as a result of either steroids or risky supplements, Shalizi wrote this gem in the article too: But Hotak denied "Dhr. Afghanistan's" death was due to using risky supplements, saying Arif Sakhi was poisoned by his rivals -- even as fellow body builders said the champion's liver and kidneys had been devastated by steroids.
The Hotak in question is Afghanistan Bodybuilding Federation Ustaad Bawar Hotak. And while the article tries to paint him as a loon for suggesting that the death is a result of poisoning rather than steroids, I think this explanation is a lot better than falling back on the old "steroids can kill" myth. So if you want to read something ridiculous, go ahead and check this article out.
