How to Surf the Web with Free Anonymous Proxy Servers
Just like the general population, most steroid users aren’t experts at surfing the web anonymously. But unlike the general population, those who buy steroids are taking a huge risk when they use the Internet so it never hurts to know a little bit about anonymous surfing. And the best place to start with this discussion is with IP addresses.
IP Addresses
Anybody who lives in a house or apartment has an address. This address identifies where a person stays so that mailmen, businesses, family, friends, and others can locate them. Much like addresses for houses or apartments, the Internet also assigns addresses to the devices which connect to it. Theses addresses are called Internet Protocol (IP) and they are made up of four numbers separated by dots. A typical IP address will look something like this: 745.0.3.80
The interesting thing about these IP addresses is that they can be assigned to regions and to individual devices too. What normally happens is that a region will be given a certain IP address and the Internet service provider in the region will assign other IP addresses to individual devices. The process of trying to remember IP addresses isn’t the easiest thing to do so some service providers will just assign a host name. When this is done, people can use the host name to find an IP address or use the IP address to find the host name.
Purpose of Anonymous Surfing
Since every individual Internet device is assigned an IP address, the IP addresses can be used to trace the activities of computer users. Each time a person looks something up on the web or sends an e-mail from their computer they leave a trail back to them through the IP address. Basically, if you’re doing anything on the web like buying steroids then someone can easily find out about it.
This is where anonymous surfing comes into play because it allows people to use the web without being identified. And when you are anonymous on the web, the sites which you visit and access won’t be able to get any other details about you due to the hidden IP address. The great thing about anonymous web surfing is that anybody can do it by simply using a proxy server.
Proxy Servers
Those who want to surf the Internet and send e-mails while maintaining their privacy usually turn to proxy servers. A proxy server is basically another computer which allows people to indirectly connect to other network services. Once a person is connected to the proxy, they can request a resource or file on a different server; the proxy then allows the user to anonymously check out the resource or file they desire. Here are some of the different proxy servers:
Website Proxy
When you visit a website proxy server, you will be given the option to fill out a form to surf the web anonymously. The form will have a special section where you can put the URL of the website you want to view. After the form has been sent, the proxy server will find the URL which you are requesting without giving out your IP address. The only major hang-ups with using website-based proxy servers are that it is time consuming to go through this process for every URL and some of the proxy websites charge a fee too. If you do happen to pay for the service, it is normally more reliable than the free website proxy servers.
Proxy Server Software
Some companies are in the business of providing software for proxy servers, but this service comes at a price. The quality of the software usually depends on what price you are willing to pay for quality proxy server usage. The software which runs faster and is more reliable will cost more than the lower quality proxy software. Companies which sell proxy server software will either charge a one-time fee or make you pay for an annual subscription.
Browser Proxy Servers
The third type of proxy server which exists is the browser proxy server. What makes these so unique is that a person can actually route their browser traffic through this proxy server and it will request pages for the user. The best thing about browser proxy servers is that they are absolutely free of charge to use. Unfortunately, this also means they are quite slow and not as reliable when compared to the services people pay for. Here’s a look at some of the browser proxy servers which you will find on the Internet:
Anonymous Proxy: Anonymous proxy servers don’t hide the fact that they’re a proxy when requesting pages for a user. But they don’t give out the user’s IP address either and they provide reasonable service with little chance of the activity getting traced back.
Transparent Proxy: As the name suggests, this is a proxy server which makes a person’s IP address totally transparent in the http header. Those who are trying to surf anonymously will need to steer clear of transparent proxy servers since they’re really only used to cache websites.
High Anonymity Proxy: Getting back to the anonymous proxy servers, the high anonymity proxy provides a person with the best IP address protection. It doesn’t identify itself as a proxy and it also shields your IP address.
Distorting Proxy: The distorting proxy server shows itself as a proxy but it also displays a fake IP address in the http section. This is another good choice for anonymous surfers since their IP address will not be shown.
Risks with using Anonymous Proxy Servers
If you only know the different types and benefits of proxy servers, then you only know a part of anonymous surfing. One thing a person has to be aware of is that most of the information sent from a user will go through a proxy unencrypted. And when the data is unencrypted, corrupt people can set a proxy to record all of the information including e-mails, bank information, and passwords.
Another major risk is the fact that administrators from Internet service providers can still retrieve IP address information from some proxy servers. Administrators won’t do this on their own so much, but the possibility does exist if the administrators have a reason to look for certain IP addresses.
The administrators of proxy services themselves can also retrieve data about a person’s Internet activities. Unlike a situation with corrupt people running a proxy, this could simply be the policy of the proxy service where administrators will agree to cooperate with law enforcement if prompted to do so.
Now these risks aren’t intended to keep you away from using proxy servers because these problems won’t arise the vast majority of the time. However, a person should always keep the risks in mind since they do exist with non-reputable proxy service. Only use trusted proxy servers which have a clean record and avoid using unknown proxy service. If you absolutely have to use a sketchy proxy server then make sure not to give out any personal information.
