I saw an interesting article the other day on Askmen.com about how Chris Hemsworth, who stars in the movie "Thor," packed on muscle to play the role. The Australian-born actor decided to put on 20 pounds of muscle after both reading the comics (Thor is pretty big), and hearing comic nerds talk on forums about how Hemsworth was too skinny for the part.
So he hit the gym with a vengeance in hopes of proving the naysayers wrong, and did plenty of bodybuilding, pulling exercises and even wood-chopping; he also force-fed himself a lot of protein to pack on more muscle.
Unknown, Hemsworth found the whole regimen was completely necessary because he needed the boosted strength to wield the giant hammer that Thor is characterized by. Afinal, the giant mass of metal on the end of the hammer wasn't just special effects.
