I always think it's cool when bodybuilding expands to other parts of the globe. This being said, I was happy to see that the African Bodybuilding Championships are still going strong after they were held in Accra, Ghana.
I've actually written a little bit about bodybuilding in Africa over the past few years, so this story definitely caught my eye. Since 2007, the organization that holds the African Bodybuilding Championships has been able to stage a nice event, which offers medals and other prizes to the winners.
And the most interesting thing about African bodybuilding is that many of these guys don't even have proper weight equipment; instead, they use makeshift weights and equipment. With better weights, Africans might see bodybuilding as their favorite sport!
Sure soccer is still the big sport in Ghana, and probably always will be. But I think that African bodybuilding could possibly become a strong second sport for much of the continent, much like it has in many Middle Eastern countries.
