Apparently there is yet another attack on the human population. The over-use of antibiotics has caused bacteria to mutate into impossible superbugs that are getting harder and harder to treat. The newest multi-bacteria is known as carbapenem resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae - a.k.a. CRKP - and is similar to MRSA, only worse. Es gibt 36 states reporting outbreaks of CRKP, but there are suspicions that the other 14 states also have outbreaks; however they're not required to report any outbreaks.
Another reason this new superbug is worse than MRSA is because it's being found in the community as well as healthcare facilities, and is attacking people of all ages. You can catch the bacteria by using dirty gym equipment, person to person contact, not washing your hands, or even getting tattoos. It would suck to catch CRKP because the antibiotics that are used to treat it can cause kidney damage. I don't know about you, but I like my kidneys.
If you visit anyone in a nursing home or hospital, make sure the staff is washing their hands, use hand sanitizer with alcohol, take showers after visiting the gym (duh), and be sure to wash your hands frequently.
