ONTMOET FRANK N. STEROÏDE
By John Romano
One of the measures of the grown of an industry is the amount of books and publications you can find on the subject. Twenty years ago, there was no books on steroids, performance enhancing drugs and the like. My great friend the late Dan Duchaine’s Underground Steroid Handbook and it’s sequel, de Underground Steroid Handbook II, ushered in the era of the "how to" steroid books. Sindsdien, many were written and the topics they broached grew to include many new drugs and protocols that were emerging as our industry grew. Proof that the information being disseminated through these publications and the Internet became evident in the knowledge the gurus were able to utilize in their charges to grow some mighty big dudes.
During the last twenty years we saw bodybuilders nearly double in size and become two or three times as lean. As with progress there is always change, and in keeping up with this ever changing microcosm we call bodybuilding, there is an ever growing field of research that ultimately finds it’s way into various books put out by supposed experts. In an arena where we are injecting huge amounts of drugs into our bodies, we must go at it without the blessing of the medical community which shuns us. therefore, we uniquely rely on our own to process and spread the science, as it becomes available, that will ultimately give us the knowledge to build ourselves into the beasts we desire.
One such book now available is what I consider to be the holy grail of bodybuilding science. Het heet Bouwen van de perfecte beest, by Author L. Rea. You may remember him as the author of Chemische Muscle Enhancement, reviewed earlier in this column. Few times is the sequel ever as good as the original. In dit geval, L. Rea has upped the anti. I’ve come to know him a bit since I reviewed his first book. You pronounce his name El Rey, which in Spanish means, "The King." Once you read these two books (you must read Chemische Muscle Enhancement first in order to utilize fully the information in Bouwen van de perfecte beest) you will agree with me that Author L. Rea is the undisputed king of muscle growing science. He may in fact be a bit extreme for some of you, maar vergeet niet, harde kern, upper echelon, bodybuilding is an extreme thing requiring extreme measures to get there. L. Rea pulls no punches – his sh*t is extreme and definitely not for the novice lifter. When you look on stage and see a 270 pound shredded freak and wonder how he got that way, U kunt – with the knowledge base attained in Chemische Muscle Enhancement – open up Bouwen van de perfecte beest en krijgen 99.9% of your question answered. Dat, in and of itself, is unique because, up until now, most of what his book contains was once considered the closely guarded secrets of famed bodybuilding gurus. All he left out was the dial in process and no one should go at that alone anyway. It would be good advise to build your beast first and then have it dialed in by a pro.
If you’re going to compete, which most of us don’t. Bouwen van de perfecte beest is actually several books contained in one cover. The information and options it offers is staggering, if not eye opening. It not only covers drug protocols – some of which I’d never heard of until now - but he also covers synergies, supplementen, various monitoring methods, voeding, training synergies, fiber testing, controls, and pre cycle staging so that you get the most bang for your cycle dollars, keeping your gains, keeping your sex drive and the size of you nuts, and do it within extremely healthy parameters. I think one of the most interesting issues in both his books is L. Rea’s attention to your health. Dat, Mijn vrienden, is worth ten times the price of the book. And he tells you why you’re doing what you’re doing. A fundamental issue often grossly ignored.
Also ignored is the prevalence of change. As science continues to open new roads into beast building, you can find updates on the accompanying website. A pretty cool accessory if you ask me. Bouwen van de perfecte beest is a concise, practical guide to a journey many of us want to take but have only a smattering of the knowledge required to get there, or just enough to get us in trouble. L. Rea took himself there – the guy is 5’ 7" and weighs 260 – mager – he can take you there too, regardless of genetics. Now you know, go get busy.
