I know that as a bodybuilder, I shouldn't be too concerned with the current powerlifting records - especially the bench press. però, as somebody who lifts weights on a regular basis, I still like to check out weightlifting records from time to time - especially the bench press.
Ryan Kennelly holds the overall bench press record having lifted 1050 in 2005. Certamente, this was with a bench press shirt on and no steroid testing involved, but it's considered the most weight benched ever. And to be honest, I'll take my hat off to him any day since he lifted over half a ton!
The biggest raw bench press (no bench shirt) of all time belongs to Scott Mendelson who lifted a heft 715 libbre. Many regard this as an even more impressive record than Kennelly's lift. Just behind Mendelson is James Henderson who has lifted an equally impressive 711 libbre, which is the best drug free bench ever. To me, if this guy isn't juicing and was able to put up 711 libbre, that's pretty amazing. Certamente, Henderson does weight 390 pounds so he's got a bit of an advantage.
